The Clifton Hotel - Scarborough
Ranked #24 of 26 Hotels in Scarborough
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Have recently returned from a 4 night stay at the Clifton Hotel, Scarborough with my husband. We were on a coach trip to Scarborough from North Devon.
We were on the top floor room 492 we used up 5 towels in 24 hours along the window sill because water was coming in above the window. We know other rooms on that floor were also affected. On the top floor if one walked down the stairs water was coming in above the ceiling, it looked terrible. Also I had to put a towel on the floor by the toilet because there was a water leak from the back of the toilet. If I had not put the towel down on the floor when one got up in the night we would be walking in water.
Our room had not been vacummed before we had arrived either.
Outside of the Hotel the building is falling away we said it needs pulling down and rebuilding.
We did have a choice of menus but the first night the dinner was hardly warm, it did improve as the week went on. The vegetables when they were put on the table looked as if they had been in the dishes for sometime. My husband and I were pleased to get home for some hot meals.
We would definitely not go to this Hotel again.
There was only one member of staff that stood out was the young Lady behind the bar with long blonde hair she was most polite and helpful.

Room was lovely, bigger than any other we have had with Brittania, think it was a family suite as had seperate bathroom, had fab views over North Bay. Took 20mth grandaughter with us for 2 night stay, but on arrival 3.10, had to wait 30 mins for room to be ready only to find no towels in room & no cot! Receptionist told me Hotel Manager would contact me with regards to refund of cot & I'm still waiting a week later. We found the Dining staff very friendly & helpful but doubt that we'll return to this hotel in future.

The room that my wife and i was in was in a fairly good state of repair. But the tv was in need of replacement as it was old and could only pick up a few stations. But aside from that the bed was comfy and the food was good with a good choice and plenty of it. After having a big breakfast didint have to eat much untill dinner time. The nightly entertainment could have been better and we only had it on for 2 nights. But for the money we paid you dont expect 5* treatment Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recomend.

room small and dated , T.V was old and did not work properly , the bed was rock hard would have been more comfortable sleeping on the spongy floorboards!! phone charger left from previous people staying!

Breakfast was okish....watered down juice , staff not very pleasant , tea luke warm as was left to stand in a jug!

WARNING !! MAKE SURE YOU TAKE ALL BELONGINGS WITH YOU AS YOU WILL HAVE NO CHANCE OF GETTING IT BACK!!!!

We checked out the hotel in the morning and went down to the beach for a coffee and realised we had left a tin in our room with some money in , We goes back upto the hotel and asks if anything had been handed in , to be handed the room key and told to go and have a look , the room had been cleaned already , I go explain to reception that the room had been cleaned and so where would my tin be ? lost property you would think?? all she said was if they had found anything then they would have left it on the sideboard incase you returned? strange i know , questioned her about the phone charger that was left in the room from previous people and what had happened to that now and she just held her hand out for the room key back , asked about my tin again to be told 'sorry' and the attitude was disgusting!!
DO NOT STAY!!!
WHAT WAS MEANT TO BE A CHEAP NIGHT AWAY ENDED UP COSTING US £100 MORE AS THIEVING STAFF COULDN'T BE HONEST!!

Room Tip: none what so ever !!
