Booked for 3 nights and the hotel had been recommended. We were give an room on 3rd floor with a sea view. The sea view was the only thing good about it. The wall behing the tv was damp and black mold from floor to ceiling, televison had a big crack in frame, carpets very worn and was so cooled in the room we had to put extra clothing on. After one night in this room we had to be moved to another room as water started coming in through the ceiling. This I will admit was a slightly better room being alot bigger and alot warmer. The staff were helpful and willing and the food good but the hotel itself is in need of a LOT of work doing to bring it up to a decent standard. Scarbough is a nice place it was just a shame about the hotel.

My wife and I have just enjoyed 3 great days at the Clifton Hotel , we have stayed there before, but my wife had just had an operation and wanted to go there again to assist with recouperation .
The Hotel was as usual staffed with very helpful staff especially Julie the Manager, and the food was superb we had bed breakfast and evening meal and nothing could be faulted.
We will definately stay there again and would thoughly recommend anyone to do the same

Room Tip: They are all good, just talk to the staff and they will assist

This hotel is nice and clean, and the staff are very friendly, also the food is excellent, but if they give you a room on the fourth floor demand a change of room before you unpack, the rooms are discussing for a hotel of this quality. and if you write to the owners after your stay they will just ignore you letter. I sent a letter with photos of my complaint but i'am still waiting for a reply.

Good job we paid for sea view as an extra with the coach tour - all other guests on the coach were given rooms at the back, with either damp walls with musty smell, no towel rails etc. Carpets in the public rooms not hoovered all week. The only good thing was the food which was excellent, and lots of variety.

Room Tip: Make sure you pay a bit extra for rooms with seaview. The lift is very small and wheelchair users r...

I took my two grandchildren on a short weekend break here.
On arrival we were greeted by extremely helpful and infomative receptionist.
It was obvious that the hotel is in dire need of a major revamp.
Our room although shoddy, was however very clean and spacious,as was the rest of the hotel.
Location is outstanding for families as it is on the quieter side Scarborough, although anyone in a wheelchair may struggle with the approach from the beach which is located only 5 minutes walk away.
It is close to Peasholm park and the open air theatre and the Sea life centre is a 15 minute walk away. There are also all day buses located at the bottom of the hill, which allow you to hop on and off all day for a one off payment. They travel all along the promenade to the south side of Scarborough, the harbour ,Spa and various nightclubs.
Overall our trip was most enjoyable, the staff were outstanding and the food in the hotel restaurant and bar were exceptional.
I would definately return, but would love to see this grand hotel restored to its former glory.

this hotel must been wonderful a couple of decades ago., not now! It was dirty and had wallpaper coming off the walls, showing mouldy patches behind, the carpets were horrible. Bar and food were acceptable but expensive.
