We had concerns about the bedroom being on the lower level. Its very strange not having a window and can feel a bit restricted.Be warned there are no phones in the room and we could not receive signals to our mobiles. This is annoying and potentially dangerous in an emergency .In general the hotels deco and architecture is brilliant, the food was well cooked and plentiful, and the staff nice and friendly.A pleasant buget hotel with room for improvement.

Room Tip: book a room with a window

Our stay at the Grand was ok would have preferred a sea view room. The hotel is old and would of loved to of seen it in its day, the staircase is magnificent and parts of the hotel have great decor, however it is a bit run down in places but they are doing refurbishments. We went on a budget weekend and was well worth the money. The room was clean and the bathroom a good size with a jacuzzi bath and the facilities were good. The food is plentiful and hot if the hotel is busy be prepared to queue, they do try to get you in as quickly as possible but you always get somebody moaning. The staff are helpful and pleasant and overall the stay was pleasant always say it you get what you pay for and would stay again.

Room Tip: always ask for seaview

We stayed at The Grand Hotel for the second time on a coach break. When we arrived we were pleased to find we had a sea view room. The beds and shower and toilet were all clean, but the rest of the room was very tatty, the carpet needed a good vacuum, there were cobwebs around the very high ceiling, the skirting boards and window frame were scruffy. We were also disappointed to find we hadn't got a bath, as we are bath and not shower people.
Meal times were awful. there were lots of coach parties in the hotel, the first morning we had to queue all the way up the stairs and half way across the room to get into breakfast, the queues did get smaller as the weekend went on, we still had to queue. The breakfast wasn't too bad, the evening meal wasn't as good, the meat was really good, but there wasn't much in the way of vegetables, no fresh ones, just frozen carrots.
We did try to upgrade to the premiere rooms so we could use the other dining room, but were told the hotel was full.
We went back as we hadn't found the Hotel too bad the last time we stayed, but we wouldn't go back again.

It probably was grand in its day,not so grand now but it's not bad for a short stay. Our bedroom 639 was ok except for the view from the window(a big gray wall), it was warm and the bed was comfy. The shower over the bath had good pressure and plenty of hot water. To get to our room on the 6th floor we had to get the lift to the 5th floor and then another lift up to the 6th .Food at the Grand is really good, plenty of it and piping hot. Al the staff were pleasant and chatty.Don't know about the entertainment, we didn't stay in,but there was bingo, dancing and a singer or comedian. Enjoyed our stay in Scarbro' and would stay at the Grand but hopefully get a better view.

Room Tip: if you want a good view don't get room 639 ,don't know about others

It's a lovely old grand building as the name would suggest, the compliments stop there alas ! Be aware though that some rooms in the hotel have no windows or ventilation these are extremely uncomfortable in warm weather and just unpleasant any other time, if you are thinking of staying please ring beforehand and advise reception that you require a room with a window. This hotel also caters heavily for coach groups which in itself is not a problem, but queues for meals can be rather long especially breakfast, it is a budget type hotel so please do not expect 5 star service !

Just returned from a 5 day break with National Holidays. Overall a pleasant break but be prepared for shoddy service and discrimination if you are vegetarian. There is only one option for vegetarians eating in the harbour lights restaurant and it is not stated on the menu so there is no way of knowing unless you queue to get into the restaurant and ask a member of staff to go and ask the chef. Then you have to order the dish. One afternoon a helpful young lady on reception rang the chef and asked what the vegetarian option was which I found helpful but other reception staff were less helpful and said I had to go down to the restaurant to find out! With regard to the vegetarian options Day 1 was vegetable Wellington, Day 2 was nut roast, Day 3 was Mushroom Wellington and Day 4 was spinach and ricotta cannelloni. Unfortunately for some obscure and unfathomable reason the chef likes to present the vegetarian dish WITH SOUP FROM THE FIRST COURSE SLOPPED ON TOP....WHY??????????? I had to ask for them not to put soup on top, bizarre!!!!! I am not keen on buffet dining but the food was reasonable overall. Not much choice for vegetarians wanting a hot breakfast though....only eggs and tinned tomatoes, i.e no mushrooms or vegetarian sausages. The dining room was extremely cold in the evening so I gave up dressing for dinner and went out and bought a fleece to wear instead! My first impression of our room was disappointing as it was very small and no sea view from the dirty tiny window. However the room was clean and there was adequate storage so no issues there. Towels were replaced daily though on one particular day we were not left any and I had to go down to reception and ask for towels. Unfortunately there was a problem with the boiler during our stay resulting in a lack of heating and hot water at times. We did not go into the entertainment room in the evening as it was simply too cold in there. There are plenty of seats in the public areas but it was too cold to sit around so we went out walking to keep warm. The bar area had plenty of seats and tables with pleasant views of the bay but drinks were pricey. I have always wanted to stay at The Grand and it does have some wonderful original features. However I cannot understand why they have painted the lovely architecture lurid shades of blue and pink which really does not go with the carpets and stunning main staircase. The hotel is in a wonderful location so I would probably return though some of the staff could do with customer care training.

Room Tip: It seems to be hit and miss. Our room on the 4th floor was tiny yet other guests said they had very...
