We booked spur of the moment for a couple of days 4th and 5th January 2013 and as always we found the hotel very good value, all staff were friendly and helpful . Our room was small but clean and a great sea view . The food we found was good for what we had paid and we actually prefer the self service option as you can take as much or as little of every item on offer as you like.
We found that we got good value for the money that we paid and for the people who really seem to like moaning we would suggest that if they want 5 star facilities they should pay 5 star money - you do get what you pay for in this life !
The weather was perfect for the time of year ( at no extra cost-although can't praise the Grand for that !).
Thank you once again and we will be back !!

Room Tip: Lowest floor room 2 sea view

We booked sat and sunday 5th to 7th january 2013,We went premier upgrade and for 2 nights for 130 pounds for breakfast and evening meal thought it was value for money, The food in the small dining room upstairs was exceedingly good,it is a fabulous hotel from a golden era and the building itself is a wonderful statement of fantastic architecture from a glorious age , But it is aged. We had a room on the 4th floor and were happy with that, We did meet a couple of guys in the lift who said they had been moved to their third different room because they werent happy with cleanliness, The dining room downstairs is a bit of a mess ceiling wise, with black mould caused by damp, probably due to the old terrace above the dining room leaking, which may be cured by getting some fresh air blowing through or some decent extract system installed, We had paid for premier breakfast as had some of the other guests, but we were sent to the dining room downstairs on the monday morning, whether this was lack of staff or what, I dont know but i would imagine this room would be grim if there were long queues, the salt is damp, the sugar is damp and the views from the windows out over the bay were non existent from the window we had, due to the dirty outside glass, i cant really see how the hotel can improve its image without a massive influx of staff which it obviously cannot afford in the economic climate that exists at the moment, i really cannot for the life of me see how anyone who has only paid fifty pounds for 2 nights, which i could have got it for , has any right to complain, Following on a recent comment about the colour scheme in the large bar area,i tend to agree that baby pink and blue would look better in a childs bedroom. i must admit that my idea of any hotel doesnt include dogs being allowed in, and i like dogs. As for the hotel being badly labelled about nurovirus , this can exist in all large public places and if people take care to clean themselves properly it can become less of a problem, I myself saw people taking bread, cakes, biscuits and cheese from the trays with just their fingers, when there were tongs always available, so what can they expect.

We went on a mystery New Year trip and finished up in Scarborough at the (not so) Grand Hotel. What a disaster, when we arrived there was no one to show you where your rooms were or the lifts around 17 coaches all arriving at more or less the same time and hardly any staff around to ask.
The queue on the first evening for the evening meal was horrendous, down a long flight of stairs and you had to wait around 45 minutes to be seated, we felt like we were being herded like cattle. The breakfast time slot we were allocated was 7.45 - who wants to get p at that time when you are supposed to be on holiday. The meals themselves were just about passable. Evening meal over, we decided to go to the entertainment venue - you must be joking. Seating for around 80 guests, there were about 800 in the hotel at the time. (one of the entertainment rooms wasn't even open).
Our room : now there's a joke you had to walk crab fashion to get round it as it was so small. The bed was only a 3/4 and neither my partner or I are small. We had to hang on to each other so as not to fall out and had to tell each other when we were turning over so that we moved in unison.
There was nowhere near enough staff to cope (at least one was arrested whilst we were there as he/she was an illegal immigrant)!!!
One of our party (there were 20 of us) had £60 stolen from her room which was locked!!! On the same evening another couple had dirty footprints in their room when they returned.
The entertainment on New Years Eve was a joke, bearing in mind that the clientele were mainly 60 plus but the music was a noisy boom boom disco. A Scottish piper in full regalia came to pipe in the New Year and the DJ didn't even turn off his music and hardly anyone noticed the piper.
The final straw came on New Years Day as everybody was getting back for a shower/bath on a cold evening - there was no heating!!!
Thank goodness there were 20 of us as we had a good time despite everything.

If you fancy holiday from hell then this delightful hotel will certainly tick all the boxes ! Never have I stayed in such a dirty filthy scummy place. dinner rooms ceiling was black with mould and condensation. Tables were grimey and sticky . Food was cold and uncooked we had to clean our room ourselves on the first day as the bath had pubic hairs in it ( not ours either !) staff were damn right rude and just not interested in any of our complaints also the hotel stunk of dog as dogs were aloud in the hotel entertainment was just dreadfully too women screeching into mikes ! 2am on the fisrt night was like the Wild West due to the sheer vulgarness from other guests ! So glad to leave will never go back there again nor would I reccomend it . The faults are endless haven't got space . This cess Pitt should have been closed down a long time ago !!!!!!!

Seen the reviews on this hotel only after booking and I thought maybe it weren't as bad as what people was saying. Well they were completely right. What a dive its filthy dirty all over had 2 get bleach from shop 2 clean the bathroom as never seen a bathroom so dirty. I swear the bed had fleas in it as I was itching all night long. The food was raw and dried up the staff were rude and clearly cudnt care less and there was signs every where informing people bout the hotel guests having nuro virus witch ain't surprising state of the place do not stay at this hotel its a big health hazard and very noisy at night with drunks running up and down corridors at night shouting banging doors. It is not fit 4 vermin 2 stay there and I cud not wait 2 get out of the hell hole.

Having visited Scarborough numerous times I was always impressed with the sheer stature of this hotel and its imposing nature and ideal sea front location so I was looking forward to actually staying there.
I left feeling a bit sad, if you will, about how this obviously once very grand and at one time very luxurious hotel is being left to slowly decay from inside and out.

Rooms are outdated... poorly decorated and the place as a whole is in much need of an appropriate re-vamp ( Personally, I don't think a place with such high ceilings, original features and good architecture benefits a baby blue, pink and washed out green colour scheme as was found in one of the main bar areas)

Our first night was terrible ... I didn't sleep a wink due to creaky floorboards of the rooms above... waste pipes running everyone else's water through our room and loud voices on the balcony directly out side our door. Credit where it's due, after a polite request we were moved to another room with a sea view which was much quieter.

Food? .... Simple... if you aren't keen on a prison style canteen queue (a massive queue at that) for poor quality, bland and completely uninviting food served in a decaying and mould covered room ... then DON'T BOTHER!!
The "canteen" service was snappy, rude and impersonal. and the dining experience as a whole resembled a terrible elderly day care centre serving some of the worst food I think I've ever had!!

My advice if you stay here ,,,,, leave all expectations at home and DON'T pay full price!!
