Booked a triple room 2 months in advance for a reunion of old college friends, to be told they'd overbooked and could only give us a double and a single, 8 floors apart, no windows and tiny. I ended up on a camp bed with a spring in my back. Claustrophobic and grotty. AVOID.

Room Tip: Make sure you have windows, if you even get your room at all.

It was unfortunate that we did not have a Triple room available and appreciate this was not ideal for the guest. We did try and contact the guest beforehand and offered approriate compensation.

HI i have never wrote a review before. The Grand is not grand once inside,we were quite lucky we got a 1st floor room, its was tidy but not clean the furniture is what you find at a junk shop, but we intended to enjoy are stay so off for tea,oh dear then the queue began, half the dinning room was closed off even though we were queing to get in,then it was queue for food school diner food at its best, the staff work hard to clear your table only to store dirty plates next to clean ones ready to go on the tables, then it was up to the bar and yes you got it queue queue queue, the entertainment was the bingo ticket seller, this continude all 4 days we were at the grand,so if you dont like to queue and i mean queue,or school diners,or shabby rooms, dont go to the grand.

With 700 guests staying on a daily basis we offer affordable holidays in an iconic bulding overlooking the south bay of Scarborough. Unfortunately at peak periods queues do form and we try to reduce this by allocating times for large groups and coaches. Dining times are from 7.30am until 10.00am and 5.30pm until 8.30pm daily .

arrived with booking details which we had done 4days ealier on line.Told to wait 5 to 10 mins but waited nearly three quarters of an hour to be told we were not booked in and they were full but we could stay at the mount round the corner and return the next day for breakfast. .If i wanted to stay at the mount i would have booked there .We had no choice the staff at our new hotel were lovely and informed us the grand hotel were always double booking so beware. The next morning we had to walk round for breakfast .

Thank you for your comments.
There was a problem with the reservaton system, an associated website did not connect to our own causing us to be overbooked. I appreciate that this was not ideal for the guests and we did find a local establishment within 5 minutes walk of the hotel. This is not the norm.

Just returned from this hotel and can't understand all the bad reviews, travelled with national Holidays and stayed 4 nights, brilliant location for the beach and shoping..our room (419) was on the fourth floor, not the best view in the world but the room was spacious and very clean with everything you need, lovely structured victorian building with tons of character that has recently had a refurbishment and in some ares still continuing, meals again not the best but very adequate, plenty of choice and staff were friendly, emperess bar serving drinks and food through the day was very relaxing and the staff, in particular Chris,Colin and Helen very friendly and helpful, only went to the evening entertainment on one night, the only thing i would say about this is maybe its time to move with the times a bit more and bring in different dancing rather than ballroom, overall a very pleasent stay and looking forward to returning in the near future.

Room Tip: if you want a sea view then upgrade...if you want modern facilities then choose a modern hotel not a victorian one

My friend and I stayed at the grand on a Groupon deal i.e DBB x2 nights x2 people + a bottle of wine for £99. However having read some of the reviews we decided to upgrade to a Premier room with Premier dining for an extra £10 each per night. For this we got room 47 on the 2nd floor. It was a comfortable large room with an amazing panoramic view of the bay. Everything was clean and tidy and in good decorative order.
We felt everything was very good value for money and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There is free internet access in all public rooms as well as plenty of lounges ,bars and general nooks and crannies to sit and have a good conversation or as in our case -play cards!!
Every member of staff we encountered was friendly ,smiling and keen to help. They could not do enough to make our stay an enjoyable one.
The food is self service -except for tea/coffee /toast which is bought to your table. The cooked breakfast was freshly prepared and the bacon lean and tasty -eggs were replenished regularly - as was all the food. The choice for dinner -although not extensive had enough to cater for all tastes and again you could help yourself to as much or as little as you wanted. The Pinot Grigio house wine at £9.50 was a bargain!!
Coffee / tea was also served in the Residents lounge where they had a well stocked bar.
The only downside is the parking and I would strongly recommend the multi storey carpark for £8 for up to to 24hrs. At least there you avoid seagull poo all over your paintwork!! It's only 3 minutes walk back through a lovely shopping arcade so no hassle really.
Yes this hotel has seen better days but it still retains much of its fading beauty adapted for the needs of the 21st century. The architecture is stunning and the ceilings are something to behold!!

Room Tip: upgrade to a premier room
