I used to come here with family as we had relatives in the village. When we go back now it brings back very fond memories. The food is good pub food and reliable. The service is good and the atmosphere is really nice. It has a nice setting and is very convenient on the Whitby to Scarborough road. Worth visiting.

Spent 2 nights in a very comfortable room with four poster bed and tea making facilities. We were there for a 60th birthday meal for 28 people. Food was served quickly and piping hot. Everything was delicious. The wine was surprisingly good considering it was on tap and put on the table in jugs. The two of us ate there the next evening. The chips were the best we had ever had. The cooked breakfast was excellent with cereals and fruit also available. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend highly.

Booked an overnight B+B, when touring through Yorkshire. The owners daughter greeted us and made us feel very welcome. We booked for dinner in the dining room, glad we did, the restaurant filled quickly. We had been contacted prior to our stay to inform us that there was a private function on the same night we were staying, not a problem as, it really did not disturb us, (party was on in the public bar). Our room was well presented, clean and had everything we needed for an overnight stay. The locals were friendly, I should mention we are a sociable couple so we found this welcoming. Menu offered good wholesome grub, a bowl of chips and selection of new pots and 3 veg came with the main course. The staff were friendly, and worked hard to offer this family run pub a homely, relaxed feel. My only moan was being woken by a female residents voice, I assume coming in late (about 1.30am) as she thanked the landlord.. This was obviously not the landlords fault...Breakfast was the usual offering, plenty to fill you for your day ahead. Would recommend if anyone is in the area....

My dining party and I had decided on sunday lunch time to venture out and try this county pub as we had heard good things and it looked nice on the many times we passed by.
As it wasnt pre planned, we didnt have reservations. However on arrival we were looked down upon for what we beleive was due to our apperance and dress code. Yes some of us were wearing shorts and summer clothes but it is also 25 degrees outside!
After a few minutes of the staff disscussing if they would give us a table, baring in mind that the place wasnt overly busy and one of the side rooms was almost empty!. They decided that we could sit in the back room out of view.
We also found the menu choice very limited and poor. as just because it is a sundayluch time they would only serve a sunday roast? and when we mentioned that one of our party was vegetarian we were told they were only 2 options both of which were pretty pathetic in terms of the superior meals offered in other establishments.
As we made to feel very unwelcome shoved in back room and faced with a very limiting menu choice, we decided to leave and go elsewhere!
We wouldnt recommend this place as its obviuosly a "local place for local people" with a very stale and unwelcome atmosphere.

Me and my wife have passed a number of times but decided to drop in & try this pub food for a change. You can sit in the bar area on a evening or in the restaurant. We chose the restaurant very light & airey room, there was a table for about 14 set out but we left as they arrived. My wife had the haddock which had a lovely golden batter with lovely white fish inside a wedge of lemon & tartar sauce. I chose the Steak pie with lashings of gravy over & this was absolutely delicious these dishes came with vegetables new potatoes & chips. Fantastic food & great value for money. We both decided to have the cherry pie & custard as we had enough room to squeeze this in( we didn't really as the meals were filling but we were out for a meal so why not) Lovely flaky pastry with delicious filling & plenty of custard. Definitely will visit again
