Owner description: BLUE BADGE PARKING ONLY IS AVAILABLE. OTHER PARKING PLEASE USE LOCAL PAY & DISPLAY. Head through the imposing gatehouse and step into 3,000 years of history. Explore the castle headland with one of our experienced guides for FREE or embark on your own journey through history with one of our audio tours and gain a fascinating insight into its past, from Iron Age settlements, to the Roman signal station and medieval chapel. The castle's heyday was in the 12th century when it was developed by Henry II and King John. This mighty castle has seen action in some of England's most defining battles. It was twice besieged by Parliamentarians in the Civil War, and has defended king and country from the Jacobites, Napoleon and the German Kaiser, when it came under bombardment during the First World War.

Not a lot to see but the views from the top are spectacular and Scarborough is a stunning town.

Well worth the visit, especially if you are in English Heritage (6 kids allowed in for free). Great views over North and South Harbour as well as over the town. There is enough left to imagine the life of a romanised Briton left behind to organise a defense against the Saxons, a 13th Century Norman knight or a Civil War defender.
Wrap up for the exposed position.

We love visiting Scarborough Castle, great for kids and you can take your dog in. Lots of history, tremendous views north & south and very nice cafe with friendly staff.

Vast green site, with well preserved ruins. Great views along the coast of Scarborough. Audio tour sets the scene nicely too for the history of the location. Well worth a couple of hours for a visit - stunning spot.
