We visit the Nishat Spice restaurant every time we go to Scarborough and have never been disappointed. Each time we have been, we have chosen the special banquet for two which is excellent value for money. I always look forward to and enjoy the starter. The samosas and sheesh kebabs are delicious and the chicken breast and bhajis beautifully cooked. Unlike many other Tandoori restaurants, each dish is specially prepared and not just curry sauce with different meat or vegetables. You could taste the delicate flavours of the different spices in each dish. Everything including the rice, nan bread and popadoms were perfectly cooked. The service as always was excellent and the food is always extremely well presented. If we lived any closer I'm sure we would visit regularly!

This was a birthday celebration with three persons attending at 1700 opening time. This had been booked but the guy who opened the door was clearly not expecting us. Eventually we were shown to a table which seemed to have not had the table linen changed for some time. Then we were left with the menus for a few minutes (nearly 15) before drinks were brought. Another couple had by now entered and were well along with their ordering etc. Eventually, our starter food was brought and deposited on the table. This consisted of Spices & Poppodam - one poppodam each and three tiny dishes of chutney, chopped salad and yogurt dip. Barely enough for one and this was for three! All the while that we were there, the waiter was messing about transacting business on his mobile telephone and certainly not attending to his customers.
The main courses eventually arrived two in heavy metal dishes which were too hot to touch and the third on a hot-plate that was cool. The third meal was only warm but the other two meals were acceptable. Eventually a second waiter appeared to see if we were Ok. He only had one useful arm and his uniform had caked dried food showing down the front. I was not impressed with the place and we consumed our meals quickly and got out of there, determined never to return.

We had an early reservation for Dad's birthday so arrived just before the restaurant opened. The man who eventually opened the door for us didn't check our reservation or anything, but just took us upstairs, put menus on the table and went back downstairs. So we sat upstairs by ourselves, chose our meals, sat a bit longer, chatted, sat some more, and after 15 minutes of waiting without even our drinks order being taken, I finally went back downstairs where the same man was chatting to a friend at the bar. He looked quite surprised and said he'd be along in a moment. It didn't augur well for the evening. We ordered soft drinks, and the same man took the napkins out of our wineglasses, held them between his forefinger and thimb as though they smelled bad, and just dropped them onto the table in a pile. Our poppadoms arrived, with barely enough chutney or raita between us to serve one. Then a waiter appeared, wearing a truly filthy waistcoat and with one arm in a sling. Not his fault at all - he had a suspected fracture - but he appared to be the only staff member working, and so people were half-clearing their own tables. For the rest of the time, he stood propped against the bar playing on his mobile phone. The meals were very good - each time I've been to Nishat Spice the food has always been really lovely - and I can't fault any of the dishes we chose (Chicken Balti, Nishat Spice Special and Chicken Korma) but as soon as we'd taken our food onto our plates the first man reappeared and swept all our dishes away! The hotplate turned out to be a cold-plate, so Mum's Korma was decidedly cool. There was no apology for any of the delay at the beginning of the evening, and in fact the only thing which arrived speedily was the bill! Sadly, it was Mum and Dad's first time at Nishat Spice - I'd persuaded them to take a break from their normal Indian restaurant of choice and try something new. They assured me that they won't be coming back in a hurry!

My wife and I are now regular visitors here and are never disappointed. Excellent service and quality food is always on offer. The mid week banquet is particular good value.
