“A Quiet Oasis in Scarborough”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

This was our second trip to Scarborough this year and having had some questionable lunches on the previous trip, I researched more thoroughly this time. We ate in the Lounge where we were greeted by a very friendly and polite young man who took our drink orders. Having perused the extensive menu, we decided on sandwiches. I had Bacon and Brie on Wholemeal and my wife had Ham and Mustard also on Wholemeal. Both were accompanied by crisps and what can only be described as the most delicious coleslaw I have ever tasted! It was obviously home made, so top marks to the chef! I took the opportunity to casually walk past another diner who had ordered Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas and his meal looked delicious and not a gigantic portion. He was heard to say that the fish was lightly battered not like other restaurants and that he was enjoying it. Although the TV was on this did not bother us, as the sound was turned off and sub titles were running. The background light music was of an acceptable volume. Following our lunch, we had two Latte Coffees that were served with delicious home made shortbread biscuits. All in all a delicious meal in a nice atmosphere. We know where to eat in the future!

We booked this 2 days prior to arrival thro booking.com, it was a lovely hotel only drawback was the car park.It does have a free off site car park about 5 mins away but just outside the hotel is a council car park and beside it a large multistorey car park but NOT for hotel guests. The staff where extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for us. My husband enjoyed an early morning dip in the indoor swimming pool.We will definately be back, though we found the heat in the hotel to be a bit over powering and the heating wasn't on!!!!!!!!!!!!

Previously stayed at the Palm Court Hotel, We booked in for 2 nights DB&B the food and menu has improved, Dave the barman still as joyful as ever, staff friendly apart from one waitress who I think was having a "bad day" one evening whilst serving our meal, she seemed ok the next evening. Bedroom was clean and tidy but the bathroom needed a re-vamp, ceiling not good and paper coming off in areas. Free parking still a huge bonus in scarborough, Will return sometime in the future.

Room Tip: bedrooms at front can be noisy from traffic and some bars opposite hotel

Stayed here whilst at a Conference. Really central location with lovely reception rooms and helpful staff. Only downside, bedrooms a little 'tired'. Good size but in need of some tlc - example of this was rust stains in the bathroom. Very convenient for the Seafront, Spa and shops. Food, including breakfast and Dinner was excellent and represented very good value for money. Rather small, strange lift - but stairs are good exercise!

After sampling afternoon tea at several other places in yorkshire including Betty's and Swinton Park, we chose the Palm Court to take my sister for a birthday treat. And our verdict after leaving the Hotel was that the Palm Court was the best yet!! We both chose the traditional afternoon tea, with popcorn tea and peppermint. There was a good choice of sandwiches, the scones were wonderfully light with a nice choice of small desserts and two huge macaroons. Nothing was too much trouble for the waiting staff, who advised on the several choices of tea. We were constantly attended too, with offers of more tea. We sat in a very comfortable corner which was calm and serene after the stressful journey from york.

This was our first visit to the Palm Court and it certainly wont be our last - try it we can guarantee you will not be disapointed

The Facade of the building, pretty, and when lit up at night....gorgeous. The lobby quite tastefully decoraded....and there's where it ends.... Once in the lift (very old and full of stains) the quality goes downhill. If you do take the stairs, becareful of the carpet because its held together by masking tape.
Got in the room (paid £130) there were 2 identical iron marks on the floor, obviously somebody has left the iron face down on the floor. The light socket to the bathroom, caked in dirt. Decor is old fashioned, dated and tired. The bathroom was ok.
I immediately complained, we were told they were full but they had one more room 2 doors down. The receptionist showed me the room...half the size of the one we were in, and no bath just shower! She said they would take £50 off the room which still brought the room to £80 which still wasnt worth it. Breakfast was better than i expected. The funny thing is my partner and i were looking at some of the other reviews for this hotel, and we were gob smacked! Either we were given the "runt" of the rooms, or the other people have never stayed in a decent clean hotel :-(

Room Tip: Steer clear of room 47...unless you have a J cloth handy!

we booked a room at short notice at the palm court , we arrived and where greeted by very friendly staff who showed us to our lovely room which is both modern and well equiped, especially the shower (rm 21) in the morning we had an first class breakfast cooked fresh, again a very friendly and efficient waitress with a nice smile nothing to much to trouble, thanks for an enjoyable stay. Service , cleanliness , location and atmosphere are all too lacking in some hotels but this one ticked all the boxes.

For a chance getaway we could not have asked for anything better . Excellent all round. Thoroughly recommend
