“Excellent”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

We have eaten in all Scarborough's notable restaurants, and at the moment this I would rate as the best. It's not a cheap date, 3 course meal for £35, but it is worth single every penny. Good wine selection as well. The dinning and sitting rooms and in particular the real fires dotted around, with great hide away seats, add a real touch of class. Top staff, service excellent.

“Can't fault it at all.”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

We stopped at Wrea Head last night and ate in the restaurant along with friends.
The food was superb, well cooked and presented.
We all commented on the quality, taste and value. The menu is not large but does have plenty of choice.
I had the scallops which were tasty followed by the steak. The steak dish was very good, obviously using top quality meat.
Breakfast the next morning was very nice, quality products cooked just right. The menu choice is good but I opted for the Full Yorkshire and it certainly hit the spot.
All the staff we met were courteous and pleasant, they are a credit to the hotel. We can't wait to visit again.

“Murder Mystery Night”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

We booked for a murder mystery night which included a 5 course dinner. Food, service, ambiance, entertainment and company all excellant. We went not knowing what to expect and have been really impressed. The staff were attentive and made the whole evening a pleasure. Whilst not cheap it is certainly excellant value for money and we will return in the future.

“Superb food”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

You don't need to stay at Wrea Head to enjoy the food!! We have now eaten several times in 1881 and each meal has been wonderful. The food seems to get better each time we visit, which is a good sign the chef continues to hone his skills and knowledge. I have had lesser meals in restaurants with awards, so it shouldn't be too long until a rosette or two come knocking??!!
Ingredients are fresh, in season and sourced locally, especially the Game (supplied by the local Shoot!). Tables are well spaced and impeccably dressed, together with comfortable seating.
I too can't remember any background music (computerised across the hotel Gerald??!!) but don't personally think it is needed, unless perhaps there are only a few diners, then a bit of classical might be pleasant to hear?
You also have the added benefit of using the wonderful bar or main hall with open fires for pre/post lunch/dinner drinks, which is always a plus point over the majority of restaurants!!
For the quality of the food, service and beautiful surroundings, Wrea Head can't be beaten for the price and continues to be the best restaurant in the area.
