This hotel is dated with even paint peeling off the wall. Dirty window and sill. But the main complaint was the Restaurant. Waited 15 minutes for a jug of water that never came and in that time the waiter passed us on more than one occasion and no one came to take our order so we left. Complained to reception and they said would report to the manager and they would get back to us the following morning. They didnt. What a waste of money very poor indeed. A very disapointed guest.

Went for New Year. Makeup mirror did not work, couldn't change bulb, no electrician on duty. Shower did not work - had to rinse hair with bathroom glass. New Years day room was not cleaned, when out came back to unmade bed, dirty pots etc. TV did not get all the chanels.

Reported to receiption, on the Friday and again on the Saturday morning, at 4.30 on the Saturday offered another room at the back ( after we had gone to receiption again), but we had paid extra for a front facing room, so we declined this room. Was reported to manager but we heard nothing more about it.

Wrote to complain letter and also e mailed never got a reply.

We have stayed several time in the past but the hotel is getting worse. It's a 'got your money, don't care attitude'.

We stayed in the Churchhill suite which although old fashioned ( like churchhill) , it had a modern bathroom and bedroom (ish).
The veiw from the suite makes all worthwhile and is sooooooo calming . Staff great and bring anything with a smile.
Food and service good and central to town and a short trip to beach. I enjoyed the FREE use of the pool without all the nonesense of Spa type prices.
VEIW- POOL- LOCATION...................great!

This hotel is very poor, dated and unclean. Service was slow and drinks expensive. £9.50 for a large glass of wine and a pint of Stella. The Royal is in a perfect for position for Scarbrough's attractions, although in March there is not many. We stayed for 2 nights bed and breakfast with dinner on the first night which was very nice as was the breakfast.
On the second night we ate at the Scarbrough Tandori which was not to our taste. The service was very good and it was very busy. The pubs we visited where all very busy with Karaoke on in a lot of them. The clubs opposite the Royal are very busy late on, large amounts of people queuing to get in to the clubs and a large police presence.
As a child we holidayed in Scarbrough and I have many happy memories. This is not Scarbrough we have seen this weekend which is such a shame.

We booked a "superior room" on a special deal through English Rose Hotels website. £154 for two nights B&B was good value for money. Comfortable room with king size bed, equipped to modern standards (including flat screen TV) and with lovely views over the South Bay. Excellent buffet breakfast.

Arrived at 1:30 pm having paid £10 for an early check in (from 12 noon). The somewhat aloof receptionist had no record of our booking, she finally located it but room was not ready until 2:30. We were offered a complimentary pot of tea whilst waiting but I would have preferred a more sincere apology.

Twice during our stay (the first time at 11pm on a Sunday evening) on returning to our room all fuses had blown and we had no electricity. On both occasions a member of staff fixed the problem within 5 minutes but frustrating all the same.

We are regular visitors to Scarborough and we shall almost certainly stay at the Royal again. The hotel is in a most convenient central location and as above, it is comfortable and good value for money
