My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Wrea Head to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in August 2008.

The Hotel was excellent, with great staff who were very willing to help and made our stay most enjoyable. The Manager led by example as she went out of her way to show interest in us and to ensure we had a great stay.

The food was particularly good and service impeccable.
Our room (19) was large and the hotel and grounds were lovely and tranquil with beautiful grounds to walk in and enjoy afternoon tea overlooking the lawns in the sunshine.

For people wanting a “grown up” and relaxing location in an English country house I would strong recommend they try this place. Ian & Liz.

We picked the Wrea Head from the English Rose circular which we receive regularly. The hotel is beautifully situated and appointed but there were several dissappointments. The reception was off-hand and disinterested especially booking out. Being pensioners it would have been nice to have had the offer of help with luggage up three flights of stairs. The premises is nicely appointed but some areas are derelict (watch out for the summer house floor!) The gardens are nicely kept and the food is imaginative and generally quite good, apart from burned breakfast bacon and underdone lamb chops. Restaurant and bar service generally good with friendly and efficient young staff.
DIY toast at breakfast is a bit fraught when several guests arrive at the same time! Butter needs to be kept cool. We will book again later in the year.

This is the 4th time we have stayed at the Wrea Head and every time has been brilliant.

We have stayed in a different room on each visit and all have been comfortable, clean and of a high standard, and relaxing.

We have always booked bed breakfast and evening meal, without doubt the food both breakfast time and evening meal couldn't be faulted, apart from the fact, haven't had enough room to indulge in the cheese board ,instead of one of the lovely sweets. The cheeses sounded very interesting and would have loved to have tasted them. Maybe next visit!

The bar lounge (all black and gold) lovely furnished with the black leather sofas and chairs, comfortable and inviting, beautiful views of the hotel grounds through the windows (when the weather is chilly) and the patio to sit out on when the weather is warm and sunny (which, though the middle of August was not for our visit). Or you can sit in the light and airy conservatory.

All the staff - bar staff, waiters and waitresses, reception and even the housekeeping staff were all friendly, had time to talk and chat. The bar staff, waiters and waitresses were efficient and always willing to help. They also knew how to look after guests in a professional hospitality manner. Even the Hotel manager (a lady) had a friendly manner and chatted with the guests and got 'stuck in'.

We found the Wrea Head some three years ago, when we were looking for a quiet ,out of the way, better quality hotel. The Wrea Head is in its own grounds, has a interesting history to it, is relaxing, restful and 'olde worlde'.

We shall be going again.

I booked a stay at the Wrea Head Hotel for my fiancée's birthday (mid-July 2008) through Travelzoo who were offering accomodation for the night, breakfast and dinner for £125 for the two of us. On booking, we declined a room upgrade for a further £20 which we would later regret.

On arrival, we took in the beautiful grounds and the ground floor of the hotel before we were led to room 11 on the first floor. This room was relatively small, with tired decor, poor ventilation and showing signs of mould in the bathroom. Additionally, there was no view to speak of with just a brick wall and rooftop outside of the window.

As there was little in walking distance of the hotel and, due to the disappointing room, we decided to take an early (3-course) dinner which was very pleasant and had sufficient choice for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Breakfast the following morning was also impressive and staff were helpful and courteous for the duration of our stay.

Our lasting thoughts would be that we would recommend this hotel for travellers willing to pay the extra for a better room. We felt that, for our stay at least, the money we saved on the included dinner and breakfast didn't really outweigh the sub-standard room.

The quality of the breakfast and dinner was very good.
The service provided was not so good.
Room 20 allocated is a poor room with no view, as shown.
Booked the hotel on a teletext offer but consider that we paid the true cost for our stay.
