“Wonderful Weekend”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

This was our second stay as a party of 8, varying in age from 21 to 75 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, food excellent, the staff very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is very cosy and at this time of the year very christmasy. The only fault I can come up with is feeling a little pushed out in the morning with all new the bedding and towels in the corridors when we went down for breakfast (but then they were very busy).
We will be visiting again soon and have recommended to friends and family.

Just returned from Wrea Head's 'murder mystery weekend' and all of us had a fantastic time.
Having never been to one and not knowing what to expect, we were open minded before the event, with no expectations. I am pleased to say we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening, which lasted throughout dinner on the Saturday, and would happily attend another, or similar evening at the hotel (apparently the company who did the murder mystery do a 'Fawlty Towers' evening which would be great fun!!)
Moving on to our weekend stay, as before, an excellent time was had. Anne, Jack and Len took great care of us (as did all the staff who's names escape me!) and exemplify what good, traditional service should be like.
The food, we felt, was even better this time round, wonderful flavour combinations, excellent presentation, they just need to publicise the chef a bit more and start pushing for an AA rosette or two!!
We stayed in room 14, recently refurbished, and fantastic quality, especially for the price.
The Christmas tree(s) looked great and decorations, whilst minimal, were tasteful.
I can't wait for the hotel to fully complete it's ongoing transformation and look forward to another dram by the log fires!
Thank you Wrea Head.

Booked at this hotel for the weekend. We were unaware when booking through a third party that the hotel had a murder weekend. We were telephoned before this date to be advised the restaurant would be closed on the Saturday, which gave us the opportunity to book elsewhere in time before the weekend. The hotel was lovely, very clean and the staff were very attentive with nothing being any trouble. The restaurant food was superb, with a variety of choices. Although there was a murder weekend this did not impact on our stay whatsoever, and we were made to feel very welcome. I would certainly recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

Wrea Head Hall certainly invites high expectations; not only is it Tripadvisor's #1 ranking hotel in Scarborough, but its stylish website oozes class and elegance. And, in truth, the hotel has much to recommend it, from the sweeping drive arcing up towards the hotel's imposing Gothic façade to the rooms themselves. Our room was nothing short of stunning, rich in period character and quite possibly the most luxuriously unique British hotel room I've ever stayed in. And yet for all these positives, we checked out of the hotel feeling a little underwhelmed. The greeting upon our arrival, whilst not exactly frosty, was certainly more business-like than warmly welcoming; our room, fantastic though it was, was only accessible through bulky fire doors which left only a narrow aperture through which to port luggage; breakfast, whilst good, was perhaps disproportionately pedestrian when compared to the hotel's purported luxury and the cost of staying there. Its price sets the bar slightly higher. The overall ratings don't lie, however, and I appreciate that whilst Wrea Head Hall may not have ticked all our boxes, this may be a matter of taste and personal preference, and that for the vast majority of its paying guests it's been rated excellent.

stayed for a two night bed , breakfast and dinner break in late november with my wife. the whole experience was brilliant. we were in room 15 which afforded a stunning view across the garden, it had also been recently refurbished to a very high quality.breakfast and dinner were first rate with well presented food and also a good menu choice. the staff throughout the hall were friendly , efficient and smart. the current owners evidently have been in place since mid 2012 and are in the midst of an updating programme. we took advantage of one of their offers and what we had represented superb value. i cannot recommend the place too highly. truly a little bit of luxury in yorkshire

Would highly recommend. This hotel is welcoming, warm & very well presented. Great for a really relaxing break. Great gardens/ grounds, bordering on open farmland. Only 5-8 mins drive into centre of Scarborugh. Food excellent. Staff very attentive, pleasant and extremely professional. The cleanliness standards are impeccable! This is our second visit. We plan to return again. We have stayed in rooms 14 and 16. Both lovely. Most recently we stayed in the refurbished Room 14 - which has a huge bed (so comfortable!!) and a fabulous bathroom with a roll top bath and an impressive separate shower cubicle. The water pressure was unbelievable in both bath and shower! Tons of white fluffy towels & a nice touch with the Loccitane bathroom products. Two really comfy armchairs and a wall mounted TV. Room 16 is larger but it wasn't available this time round and was probably a little more expensive. We booked based on receiving one of the Advertising Flyers through the post offering a deal whereby you received Dinner, bed and breakfast and afternoon tea for £170. Superb value in our opinion. We've only visited in Nov and plan to return in the summer to enjoy sitting outside / eating and drinking on the veranda and conservatory.

Room Tip: Rooms 14 and 16 are 1st floor on the wing that is above the 1881 Dining Room and Kitchens. You don...

Booked wrea head hotel as a birthday treat for me and 6 others. From the minute we walked through the door we were made to feel so welcome. Staff had laid out a table in the conservatory part of the hotel and put the heaters on for us as it was November. We had all pre booked the afternoon tea and it was amazing. Plenty of sandwiches, salmon, egg etc followed by the most amazing scones and cakes I have ever seen. During our time there, staff kept refilling out tea and coffee pots (which they don't always do when you have afternoon tea) and nothing was too much trouble for them.
It wasn't cheap at £12.95 but definitely worth it for the attention to detail and the helpfulness of the staff.
