we found this to be a very busy pub, with waitresses rushing around, and had more the feel of a large chain rather than a family run business.
the service was good but with no real personnel touch (they were busy though)
we ordered 1 lamb and 1 beef Sunday dinner served with a lovely homemade yorkshire pudding and 3 roast potatoes.
both meats were cooked nicely and tasted gorgeous.
what let it down slightley was the separate bowl of veg which was overcooked and a little mushy for my liking
the puddings were excellent (apple crumble and chocolate brownie) served with separate mini jugs of cream and custard which is how I prefer it

overall a really nice Sunday lunch, but not quite as good as tripadvisor reviews would have you believe.

My Partner and I visited Bryherstones on Sunday Evening 26th Feb 2012. The place itself is warm and cosy with Log Fire and traditional decor. The staff and owner of the the pub were all very friendly even though we had travelled from Lancashire!!
The menu was varied and the food was absolutely delicious. Would recommend this place to anyone who likes good traditional English Food at a reasonable price. Definately would visit again on our next trip to Scarborough!!

We were back in Scarborough and went back to the Bryherstones for a family Sunday lunch having had a great meal there last year.

We received a warm welcome from the landlord, Paul, again. There were a lot of customers but we didn't have to wait long for our food.
The roast lamb dinner (which we all chose) was extremely good and the desserts were excellent too.

My family and I visited recently, a mixed selection of tastes and appetites and we were all bowled over by the charm of the place and the welcome from the Shipley family. We had a vegatarian in our party, and he was more than happy with the selection on offer, as we're the children who were catered for by way of a smaller portion of the adult meal they really wanted, not forced down a fish finger vs chicken nuggets route. If you want fabulously fresh home cooked food, a welcome that just doesn't exist in many places nowadays, in marvellous north Yorkshire surroundings, you really would be hard pressed to find anywhere that comes even close. We will be back, and recommending the BRyherstones to all our friends.

We called in without a reservation. Friendly owners, nice open fire, and they allow dogs in part of the bar.
Very limited vegetarian options, but we decided to give it a go as we were hungry! Basically, we got a plate of vegetables with a huge Yorkshire pudding in an admittedly nice mustard sauce. The owner at one point made a somewhat disparaging remark about vegetarians, and it turns out that his wife is a butcher's daughter.....
Come on, guys, it is 2011. Eating here felt like going back 20 years.
