Description: Take a step back in time. . . Francis Tea Rooms is set in an original 1930's hairdressing salon, complete with wood-pannelled booths. It has an unique atmosphere with hand embroidered tablecloths and Art Deco vases. We serve Taylors coffee and a variety of their loose teas in vintage china. A varied menu of brunch, light lunches and afternoon teas is available as well as a large selection of homemade cakes, tray bakes and scones. Our specialities are Homemade Soups, Welsh Rarebits, Quiches and Traditional Afternoon Teas. Our own recipe scones, lemon meringue pie and fresh fruit almond cakes earned us a place in The Guardians Top Ten Budget Eats - Yorkshire Coast 2010.

We visited the quaint Francis Tea Rooms after it was recommended by a friend. Albeit the tea rooms are tucked out of the way from where it might not be expected to find a tea room, when you arrive there it's obvious of it's original use and why it is located where it is. The place is formerly an old high class hair salon, the experience is heightened with the inclusion of the orginal booths, making the experience quite nostalgic, not that i'm old enough to remember this era!
The welcome was very warm and we were directed into a booth where there were two tables, set out with old china cups and saucers and a nice little touch of a glass jar of sweets with a note attached saying 'eat me'. When you are seated in one of the booths it's not hard to visualise it as it would have been many years ago! - a couple of hairdressing chairs with the old 'pull down over the head' hair dryers. There would be a couple of shelves with the hairdressing equipment on and maybe a magazine or two to read.
The menu choice was quite extensive and well priced, the service was prompt and well presented. There seemed to be a great choice of original tarts and quiches as well as a varied selection of other savoury dishes and leaf tea. My partner had a Feta Cheese, Sun Dried Tomato and Pesto quiche of which she said was 'beautiful', the selection of salad that accompanied it was superb, it was also served with tasty bread. I was pretty boring and indulged in a toasted teacake, this was accompanied with a lovely jam though! I sneakily looked at the other tables that were occupied and they appeared overflowing with palatable delights and well satisfied customers.
The overall bill was just less than £10, i'm already looking forward to when we can go back to sample maybe an afternoon tea! This is a place well worth going out of the way for and making that extra effort to locate it, I can almost guarantee that there won't be any disappointment!

With about 20 loose leaf teas to choose from, these tea rooms offer an ideal ambiance to relax while enjoying freshly homemade food. We arrived to Francis on a cold afternoon, and we loved the intimacy the old hair dresser boots offer. The owners are really welcoming and passionate about what they do, and more than willing to share the history of their tea rooms and Scarborough. We had soups, sandwiches, salads, tarts, scones with awesome strawberry jam, and of course divine tea for a very reasonable price. After several disappointing attempts of a proper tea in the Yorkshire, I can finally say I had a delicious afternoon tea, and I am planning to come back.

Together with my husband I have visited Francis Tea Rooms about 5 times now and I can honestly say that this is the best place for afternoon tea. The booths are lovely and you never feel rushed. A lovely relaxing way to take tea. Definitely worth a visit when you are in Scarborough.Food excellent and the home made cakes are fab!

We came on this place by chance, after visiting St Martin-on-the-Hill church nearby. Formerly a high-class hair salon, the booths have been retained and lend a unique character to the place.
But it's not just the ambience. The food is also excellent, and the proprietors welcoming.

Cannot praise this tea room highly enough. Brad and Sarah the owners are so friendly and welcoming and despite being busy and us not pre booking managed to find us a table and gave us a warm welcome. The afternoon tea was devine with a lovely range of sandwich fillings and superb homemade cakes and scones. Served on fine china, with vintage embroided table cloths in little private booths.

This lovely couple are passionate about what they do and were enthusiastic to share the history of their lovely tea rooms.

A large selection of teas is also available and again Brad is very passionate about telling you about these and advising.

Would like to wish them both every success with their venture.
