Description: Take a step back in time. . . Francis Tea Rooms is set in an original 1930's hairdressing salon, complete with wood-pannelled booths. It has an unique atmosphere with hand embroidered tablecloths and Art Deco vases. We serve Taylors coffee and a variety of their loose teas in vintage china. A varied menu of brunch, light lunches and afternoon teas is available as well as a large selection of homemade cakes, tray bakes and scones. Our specialities are Homemade Soups, Welsh Rarebits, Quiches and Traditional Afternoon Teas. Our own recipe scones, lemon meringue pie and fresh fruit almond cakes earned us a place in The Guardians Top Ten Budget Eats - Yorkshire Coast 2010.

We were staying in Robin Hoods Bay around the time of our little girls second birthday on the 15th, and decided to take a chance on making the journey to Scarborough to visit the tea-rooms as a treat for both her and ourselves based on the wealth of favourable reviews. As soon as we stepped in we felt we had made a wise choice, from the intriguing fixtures to the genuine warm welcome we received. The whole experience was sublime...from the little glass bowl of tiny sweets with the invitation to "eat me" attached ( Tilly needed no invitation ), through the marvellous selection of sandwiches and cakes/scones on the wonderfully presented afternoon tea, the lovely ad -hoc old china service (much of which has been brought in by local old dears who love the owners), and of course the tea itself. As a Yorkshireman I was almost flabbergasted by the value for money (much inferior offerings can cost vastly more in institutions trading on past reputation/ location), but what really sealed the deal for me was the way the owners went to so much effort to make our little girl feel special, bringing out little plates of sandwiches just for her before they knew it was her birthday...but when they realised the visit was to mark her celebration, well, the impromptu cake complete with candles and singing brought a tear to my eyes.
All in all, this is a delightful venue that produces top class food in a truly idiosyncratic setting for anyone who appreciates the most authentic and genuine welcome you could wish for. Tilly might not remember it as she gets older, but we always will. Thank you.

Visited this fab wee, 1930s Art Deco tea room, home made soup, afternoon tea served on 3 tier cake stand. Tea in china cups, juice in teacup for my 6yr old daughter. All in a little wooden panelled booth that was once a 1930s hairdressers, on tables covered with embroidered tablecloth. Little dish of midget gems with eat me label. Lovely servers, you just shouldn't miss a wee visit.

This is a small ex-hairdressers that is arranged as a series of wooden booths, each containing a table or table and chairs. The menu is fairly basic but everything is fresh and beautifully presented.

My husband and I had to most delightful experience visiting the Francis Tea Room. We were greeted with a lovely smile from a very pleasant gentleman who showed us to our booth. Yes a booth, lovely and peaceful and so beautifully "set up" lovely linen table clothes and little dishes with sweeties on the table.. It was just amazing, like stepping back in time. We ordered lunch which was beautifully presented and the service was superb. We loved it so much that we returned the very next day with our Son, daughter in law and our little 2 year old granddaughter Sophie. The attention to detail was wonderful, and the little tarts to die for. My husband ordered a ploughman's platter which was enormous and again the presentation beautiful. The lady owner I note from a previous review is Sarah oozing with personality very kindly produced little jam sandwiches and strawberries for Sophie. We all loved our lunch and suffice to say my husband left with a "doggie " bag heading back home to Dundee. We are regular visitors to Scarborough as our son works there and will make sure we always make a point of visiting the tea room. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience. Ann & Eric

This was our 2nd visit to the tea rooms after finding it earlier in the year. This time we took my mum for her birthday and booked the beautiful booth with the stained glass window at the back of the café. Sarah had decorated the booth for us with balloons, party poppers etc. & wrote a birthday message on the board outside - my mum was absolutely thrilled. We had some afternoon teas and a couple of the home made tartlets - the brie & salami was particularly delicious! The cakes are so delicious and there were a selection of 5 different sandwiches on the afternoon tea. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to visit again. Thank you for making our afternoon so special.
