The Villa Esplanade Self Catering Holiday Apartments
Reviewed June 23, 2014

Thank you to the team at Vill Esplanade, wonderful stay once again. They upgraded us to an apartment which was a nice touch. This was our third stay and certainly will not be our last.

This is not the ritz so don't expect it to be, it's clean and comfortable and very handy for the local amenities. Plus it has a fantastic restaurant 'el gringos' joined on to the hotel which is a MUST visit.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, car parking is minimal but can be prebooked at a small cost.

We hav stayed here before but to be honest we wont be back, great location for all amenities but my god its awful, we stayed in a room with a built in shower and a toilet in a cupboard, which wasnt pleasant. Carpets are disgraceful with stains all over, everything is dirty, theres hoovers on the landings but the floor looks like never been hoovered for weeks. We joked that the cleaning lady had a bucket full of assorted cleaning substances, she just mustnt use them. We passed the guy a few times when coming and going and he didnt so much as look at us let alone say morning, we only got one towel each for 2 nights, and the bed throw looks worn and tired. Mismatched mugs, they cud make this place so nice such a shame that its in this state.

We prepaid £54 on booking.com. On arrival the reception area was in the process of being re-decorated and wasn't manned. Our initial reaction was to leave but when someone arrived we decided to check-in. We were allocated apartment 28 but were horrified when we opened the door. We didn't think places like this existed in the UK anymore. The bedroom looked dirty and in desperate need of updating. There were no towels in the bathroom and the shower was a piece of white hose to be attached to the taps. My wife was reduced to tears and we decided to bite the bullet and find somewhere else to stay. Pictures on websites are misleading and this place needs a total overhaul. Stay here at your peril!!

Room Tip: Book somewhere else.

The hotel costs us only £35 a night, which was the cheapest we could find in the area.
We decided to go for it, upon arrival we had to pay another £5 for parking.. in their own private car park.
Which brings to price to £40 now. The inital impressions are awful! I really did not want to stay here! The corridor has no paint!, walls bare with old wallpaper falling off, a old stained carpet and cracks everywhere. My parnet decided to atlease view the room before we left.. The room, (31) was up 57 stairs and to be fair was pretty good. A large bed, (2 3\4 put together) a small modern kitchen and a newly refurbished bathroom.
The walls were full of cracks and made the room look very old and worn. The top of the wardrobe was covered in bird poo!
We discovered the resturant attached also doesnt do breakfast.. which meant we ended up paying another £15 for that.. £55.
Which really could have got us a much nicer hotel, with breakfast and closer to town. I dont think i will be staying here again, hey ho lesson learnt.

I have stayed here every week for the last six months, whilst working in scarborough, David and his team have been excellent in every sense of the word through out.
Nothing detered his team from giving me full attention at all times and a cheerie smile was always on offer as I passed through reception.
The appartment was always in a clean and tidy state, week after week and I have no complaints whatsoever.
For the price I paid I can only state it was excellent value for money.
Once again David thank you and please pass on my thanks to your staff for making my second home such a pleasant place to be,

Rod Winter

Stayed here with a few friends May bank holiday weekend. Booked through laterooms night before due to a last minute decision to visit Scarborough and due to budget this seemed ideal for what we were looking for. We recieved a text on the way asking about our arrival time and asking if we needed a carpark space of which we said yes. On arrival we parked up and a very friendly staff member approched us informing that one had not been reserved but he could give us a pass for the street(£5). [Later turned out that they had a spare space and he charged us the same amount!] On entering the 'Villa' it was a little worring as the entrance is in desperate need of decorating and doesnt give the best 1st impressions but as we have travelled worldwide and stayed in some dicy hostels it was easy to overlook. Check-in was swift and we were then shown to our room which was nice rather than been give directions. The room itself (17) was nothing like i expected. For an older building all the room had been modernised well. The living room was extreemly spacious, large tv, dining table and 2 sofas, and again a very large bedroom (very comfy beds!) and nice bathroom. 3 of us staying and the room easily would accommodate 6. The kitchen was small but workable, eps as we only needed the fridge for wine!! Given keys to front door so very easy to come in and out when we wanted. Definatly stay here again if visiting Scarborough as some friends stayed in the 4* nextdoor and paid double and said their hotel was nothing special. Very good lil quirky place to stay :-)
