The Villa Esplanade Self Catering Holiday Apartments
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Booked an apartment for two but were offered Flat 35 which slept 4. It was on the ground floor next to the Mexican restaurant and we were a little worried the room would smell of burritos and be noisy but we didn't experience any problems at all.

The flat was a good size and had a really comfy bed (but not if you are tall), fridge, freezer and enough pots etc to self cater if you are so inclined and although the shower wasn't very powerful there was no shortage of hot water. The place is self catering so remember towels and toiletries but you can buy supplies at reception if you don't fancy the walk into town.

Helpful, friendly staff and wi-fi available in reception area, a good value choice.

People have mentioned that the outside was peeling - well good news - it was in the process of being re-painted.

Have stayed at Villa Esplanade for years but really disappointed this year to find it has downgraded to budget accommodation. First apartment had no hot water, two light bulbs missing from bathroom and shaver point didn't work. Second apartment had two light bulbs missing in bathroom and no convector heater. Third apartment had 3 panes of cracked glass in kitchen part. Information in folder in room was out of date, TV's in 2nd & 3rd apartments had to be switched on manually at the set (do they still make them like that now!) No good if you want a shower or bath between 10.30 a.m. & 3.30 p.m. as the boiler is switched off then. Why pay £7.50 a day for parking when you can use street parking for £2 a day and a public car park at the rear for £5 a day. Did not use £5 electric meter card but did get a refund. Good location however but won't be staying there again.

On first appearance the hotel appears dated and once inside has something of a vintage feel to it. however once settled the room was spacious modern and very comfy. the staff we met were pleasant and inviting. The manager very kindly upgraded us to a sea view apartment from a standard double room and this was much appreciated, although the kitchen facility were basic they were more than sufficient and the views were very impressive.
its worth bearing in mind that towels are not included and that parking (and electricity in apartments) cost extra. Guests receive a 20% discount in the adjoining restaurant and its well worth a try if you like Mexican/Cajun food.
Overall at £33 a night this was much better than i expected and a good fun place to stay. It might not be to everyone's taste but perfect for us.

I just got back from a motorbike trip to the racing at Olivers Mount in Scarborough. While we were there we stayed at the Villa Esplanade for 2 nights. I would recommend this place to anyone wishing to stay in the area on a budget. Other reviews say it is basic and it is but there is nothing wrong with that. Bring a towel!! How hard is that? The owner was really nice and incredibly helpful. The room is basic but clean, warm and has all that you need.

If you take your girlfriend here for the weekend and propose, she probably isn't going to say yes but for somewhere to bunk down and base yourself it is perfect.

Great location.

Oh, and the restaurant downstairs is brilliant - El Gringo's. Be sure to book tho if staying on a weekend and skip lunch.

I would certainly stay here again.

suppose you do get what you pay for ,the room was very basic ,kitchen was spartan and the shower works until you stand under it !!!!! Be warned there are no towels provided ,only 2 tea bags and 2 sachets of coffee ,1x toilet roll and be prepared to pay a tidy sum for car parking and electric cards,as the apartment we were in had a convector heater only no radiators and very cold room ,luckily we were out all day and rarely used it.all in all the place needs a coat of paint and a good clean ,but can't fault the staff very friendly and helpful ,just a very basic apartment let it down,

Room Tip: Take plenty of towels and coffee/tea bags

Just returned from a short midweek stay at the Villa Esplanade and will honestly say I would happily return to this little gem on the east coast.

At first sight you don't know what you're going to get as the outside could do with a coat of paint but nothing much, we rang ahead and advised we would be arriving shortly so the owner was standing outside waiting to greet us and guide us into our allocated parking space.

Check in was fast, easy and friendly we got the option to purchase electricity there and then but declined and did that later. The owner recommended El Gringos the adjoining Mexican restaurant for our evening meal.

We went up to our room which was on the top floor and were very impressed by the size and amenities provided. The sea view was lovely also. Please note the apartments do not provide towels (or we had none anyway) so make sure you remember to bring your own! The room was large and had a homely feel to it could quite happily stay a week or more.

The apartments are close to everything with the town centre being 10-15 minutes walk away and the sea front being just 5 minutes down the hill.

We ate at the Mexican and can say it was some of the best Mexican we have had in the uk. My partner had been to Mexico on a number of occasions so for him to be impressed was a bonus!

The second night we walked into town and ate at Scarborough tandoori this is also somewhere I would recommend.

All in all I would return to the villa esplanade and would be very happy to recommend it!

Great Location, all straight forward check in, lot's to see and do in Scarborough so really just somewhere to have a good nights sleep, and eat when you want too... which is what it provides.

We were able to borrow beach items from owner which I thought was a nice friendly touch and lots of local knowledge and suggestions of local attractions from owner.

Car Park is small and bit tight but still once parked up, didn't need to use car during stay.

Would recommend for a few nights stay and great location for all the attractions, bus runs along front every 30mins in season so can always hop on & off bus if your legs aren't up to the walk.
