“Have been in much better travelodges, basic but clean.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2010

We went on a 3 night stay with a 3 year old and a 6 month old. Did'nt expect anything fancy but have'nt seen a more basic travelodge!. The reception and bar area was nice but the rooms had been furnished really basically (more basic than any other travelodge i have been in) we only had 6 coat hangers in a family room and could have done wih some drawers with having little ones, that said it was a large room and there was plenty of towels and hot water. We did find access to the room difficult with a pushchair as corridoors and rooms were on different levels you would be hard pushed to find a level access room in this hotel we did ask if there was any and they said none available at the moment and we should try the next day but when you have 2 little ones it was more effort than it was worth so we stuck with what we had and hubby just had to lift pushchair up and down the stairs! Breakfast was fine, though staff were struggling on the last day we were there to replenish stocks but it didnt affect us so that was ok. You cant check in before 3pm you can pay an early check in fee of £10 and same also applies if you want a late check out. Parking is an issue outside the hotel best to use the carpark round the back of wilkinsons £7.20 for 24hrs and only a 5minute walk away, there is a loading bay at the front of the hotel so you can drop your luggage off so its not that much of a hassle. To sum it up its really basic accomodation but hotel is in a great location, just expect to do a bit of lifting if you have a pushchair!

Stayed here for 2 nights, 1-2 August. We were given room 501, with a stunning sea view. Room was basic but clean, although the windows on the inside could do with cleaning. Seagull noise is constant, but I took ear plugs so wasn't a problem. My partner found the bed uncomfortable. We only had 3 pillows, asked for another which didn't arrive so asked for one next day. We didn't have breakfast or any food at the hotel so can't comment on that. The room was very hot, even though we had the window open. The staff were pleasant and friendly. People are quick to complain about the hotel but it is a budget hotel, I don't have any grand expectations with it being £55 a night. Also, seen someone on here say Scarborough is a dump, there are far worse places and I think it is a traditional seaside resort, not too tacky. The fish and chips were great from the Golden Grid, had lovely ice cream from the Harbour Bar and a Greek meal at George Michael's restaurant which was very nice. The only problem was the lack of decent pubs, the Golden Ball is nice by the harbour, most of the others had karaoke all day and night, fine if you like it! I would stay at the Travelodge again.

well wot can i say firstly you cant check in till 3pm and there is no room to leave any luggage! the room had a sofa bed but no linen (family room ) the evening meal which we had pre paid was the worse meal i have ever had it was awful no wonder we were the only people in the restaurant. finally the seagulls screamed all night and the noise from other rooms was terrible i can honestly say i would not recommend this shabby hotel too any-one !!

Clean room except bathroom floor. For a newly refurbished hotel, there are miles of pvc conduit and random blank socket faces throughout the room.

Bed uncomfortable and aged my spine by about 30 years in 7 hours! (Room 318)

Everything else was fine.

Thought we would stay here as we were on route from London as never been to scarbrough before.
First the hotel typical no frills Travelodge in an old building, hotel was noisey heard everything especially from upstairs as the floors were still the old floorboards squeaky and creeky and paper thin .Room not the cleanist but was in a good location 30 seconds to the town centre though you were at the top of a cliff and it was murder getting to the beach, especillay of you forgot something.
The food at dinner time was ok we had pre-booked it thought i would have been better with a Mcd's.
There is no parking at the hotel you can park outside it if you get a space for 3 hrs max at a cost of £3 then you need to go to the NCP about 400yds away at a cost of £7.20 for 24hrs.
As for Scarbrough its old, unkept, dirty and down right dismal sorry if you stay there but thats me finished with the goold ole British holiday.
We left after one night and came home we hated it that much i should have just bit the bullet and went to Spain.

At the weekend we stayed in the Scarborough St Nicholas open prison (travelodge). If you like your room with all white decor, the bed with a thin white duvet, a small desk and a clothes pole sticking out of the wall; then this is the prison (hotel) for you! Add a bathroom fully tiled in white with white towels to complete the picture. Don't worry about security; just use your room key to get out of the lobby, operate the lift and enter your room if you can find it. Slightly dodgy signage and rooms arranged in rabbit warren formation with the odd short flight of stairs thrown in for good measure.

Still you can always look forward to your 'all you can eat' breakfast with your eggs cooked any way you like so long as its scrambled. Simply queue up by the 'Please wait to be seated' sign; give in you breakfast vouchers, name and room no and they will give you cold plates and cutlery in return. Now find yourself a table and help yourself to breakfast including coffee from a machine. And once you've finished if you could just put....

Wouldn't have minded quite so much if it was cheap, but:
£70.00 for the room (1 night)
£6.50 each for breakfast with £1.00 internet booking discount
and no parking. (park in the ncp for £7.20 a night but its locked from 7pm to 9am)

Luckily our room was available when we got there (about 10:30 am) so we were able to check in early. Just an extra £10 for checking in before 3pm!

There won't be a next time.
(Note that it is very difficult to find accomodation in Scarborough for 1 night only).

The hotel is in an excellent location for the town and the beach but the experience was a complete disappointment. The building itself is beautfiful from the outside with, presumably sea views...however, not even the restaurant had a view of the sea and the castle...it had no windows at all and was sweltering.

The bedroom needed hoovering and despite requesting this to be done it was not. The room was very hot and we needed to keep the windows open but were kept awake by the seagulls most of the night. There was toilet paper and brown marks on the bathroom ceiling and hairs in the bath. The room was very drab and very much like student accommodation. We had a view of the multi storey car park and netting to keep away the seagulls. (This Travelodge is not a patch on the Premier Inn if you've stayed at one of those)

Despite the staff being friendly I think they were overwhelmed with the task of keeping the hotel clean and the breakfast bar stocked.

The mattress of the 'pull out' bed was not comfortable as you could feel the springs, even our 5 year old noticed it and refused to sleep on it. We even had to make this bed up ourselves even though we booked for 4 people and move the furniture around so we could still access the bathroom!

The final nightmare when you have a young family and/or lots of luggage is the parking - we had to park in the local car park at £12.90 for 24 hours.
