“Not so bad for the price, but no sleep!”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

Overall this Travel lodge is not bad and is in a great location. The room was big and the bathroom was very clean! I think the shower had just been re-done as the there was no dirty grouting or silicon, so all good there, however the room was missing some basics. Firstly there was no lighting at the far end of the room where the desk/dressing table was, so it was a bit gloomy. The room overlooked another building at the back and our room didn't have any net curtains for privacy, which meant you had to have the curtain closed (but with no light as mentioned above was poor) and if the curtain was open you could be seen by the neighbouring building. There was no mirror over the dressing table which meant it was difficult using a hairdryer without a nearby mirror. There was no mattress protector on the bed...ERR and the bed was very uncomfortable. The worst thing was the 'all night party noise' which was had by the resident seagulls outside our window!! - This is not really the fault of the Travel Lodge as Seagulls are what you get in Scarborough! however the room was so hot we had to keep our windows open all night which meant no sleep, but never mind as we only stayed one night. Breakfast was reasonable for the price and all the staff were very pleasant and friendly. As I said, not so bad for the price.

This is the second time we have visited this particular travelodge and has to be the worst we have ever stayed in. If we go away somewhere we use travelodge as they are normally well maintained and clean.
But this one is a total joke. When we stayed here the first time we had to change rooms due to the resemblance to a prison cell. Very dark and miserable and put off by the vast amounts of bird faeces on the windows.
The second time we stayed here yet again we had to change rooms again due to the servere lack of lighting, cleanliness and broken furniture and of course the bird faeces on the window.
We were then moved to another room with large bay windows which were also covered in bird faeces (no window cleaners in scarborough?!) The view had to be the best part of our stay, looking out onto a builders yard.
The bed was again broken, the mattress similar to a park bench although im sure you would get more sleep on a bench. There was one large towel and one hand towel to share between two people for two nights (we aren't not THAT comfortable with eachother yet!)
The bathroom was dirty and all floors were creaky. The door to the room didn't shut properly. Needless to say we will never stay here again until it gets the updating it desperately requires.
Dont waste your money!

The rooms always are variable at a Travelodge hotel, but we got a super one with a view of the ocean thanks to the manager Danny. Simon and Paul were helpful, efficient and friendly. We were there for three days. The breakfast was good value with a range of known branded cereals, even croissants, and the dining room was clean and kept tidy. Yes there could have been more staff, but what do you expect for your money? Ignore the negative stuff, this hotel is fine…

The room was dirty and neglected it smelt old and damp and neglected. Our view was on to a seagull poo covered roof with a bedroom from the back hotel looking into ours. Hence our dirty worn curtains remained shut! The whole place looked in need of a good sterile cleaning and some new curtains, carpets and beds would be an idea. Dried spider legs next to the kettle is something I doubt will catch on. All in all for the £47 we spent it was a complete and utter disgrace.

We had booked 2 nights at the Grand Hotel, we were shown rooms on levels -1, -2, and level 2, all 3 rooms were dire so we left. All unsuitable and we paid for an extra upgrade.
We walked over to the Travel Lodge and asked if they could accommodate us, the cockney on reception was pleased to help, even gave a us a phone to ring the booking in which saved us money.
The room was large enough, clean, decent furniture, good bed. The Hotel was at a good standard, friendly, a good bar, staff attentive and even seemed happy (probably worked at the Grand before)
Anyhow, thanks to the cockney reception guy, and thanks for the extra tea bags & milk
Well Done
Steve

Room Tip: We were on level 4 facing the Grand through a big picture window

Having read reviews before staying at this hotel I was a little worried. I rang the hotel reception and told them my concerns and asked if they could locate me a room on a high floor overlooking the sea, no problem she said. My husband and I arrived Friday 4th July for two nights, we were greeted by both reception staff in a very friendly manor who allocated us room 422.
The room was quite large with a fantastic view out to sea , what an exceptional room, all the staff in the travel lodge could not do enough for us.
I would say to anyone don't worry and give them a ring and don't be frightened to ask, they were very willing to please.
I do agree that it does need a little refurbishment but quite honestly it does deserve some of the reviews posted.

Room 143, decent size, no sea view, usual rubbish dirty courtyard view and a bed. Woke up in the morning to the smell of raw sewage, toilet would not flush and the ceiling was leaking all over me and my belongings. Use bottle water just incase that water is infested with Lymes or Legionaires. I will be taking this up further with Travelodge as it is a genuine issue of health and safety that could shut a hotel down.

We are sorry to learn of your poor experience srotideuk. We do expect all of our facilities to be fully functional and our housekeeping team will notice any unpleasant smells present in a room and will air the room out accordingly. We are concerned to learn you found water leaking from the ceiling and we would like to take the opportunity to investigate your concerns regarding the leaking ceiling in more detail so we would very much appreciate it if you would visit our website and use the Contact Us button to provide us with more details.
