We wanted a luxury break for our latest trip to Scarborough, and, having seen good reviews, booked via Laterooms at the Shorehouse. We weren't disappointed. From the outside, it's an ordinary looking terraced house in a street back from the Esplanade on the South Cliff. Once inside, however, you enter a gem of a place. We were met on arrival by Zoe, who seems to run every aspect of the business personally. She showed us round the house, eventually leading us to our room, which was a very pleasant surprise, even after seeing some pictures on the internet. It was a large room, with a settee (which no doubt doubles as a bed for a third guest if necessary), and a table & chair. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. The furnishings were all very contemporary and looked new, with complementing fashionable bold black & white wallpaper. We later discovered that Zoe (with help from her family) made the Roman blinds on the windows. The en-suite was similarly very up to date, and formed a separate 'room within a room'. Well stocked with gels, soaps, etc. Plenty of wardrobe/cupboard space. Excellent hospitality tray. Wi-fi available. Choice of current magazines in the room, and a small selection of DVDs to play on the in-room TV/DVD player. Daily newspapers available in the hall as you come down for breakfast.

Breakfast was a treat - good choice of juice/fruit/cerials, followed by an excellent 'full English' (veggie options available) to your specification. An innovation was a 'lighter option' which I had on the second morning - scrambled egg & bacon with a toasted muffin. Good, fresh, limitless coffee/tea, good choice of bread.

Zoe takes the trouble to remember peoples names, and is also anxious that guests make the most of their stay in Scarborough. She is full of suggestions of things to do and places to eat, but in a very unobtrusive and pleasant way. The property is scrupulously clean, and everything about it looks as if it has been newly fitted just before you arrived - it takes some work to keep a B&B looking like that!

Parking is fairly easy, as the property is just outside Scarborough's central disc parking zone. We parked for free and within sight of our room.

You pay more to stay somewhere like this, but it's worth every penny. We'll be back.

Note that payment is by cash/cheque.

Room Tip: I don't think there are any bad rooms

Thanks so much to the Shorehouse for looking after us & making our short stay in Scarborough so wonderful. The Shorehouse is welcoming, clean, our room had a designer touch, is in a great location & has a smashing breakfast (award winning sausages & free range eggs most days!!!)

See you next year

We have just returned from a 4 night fabulous stay at the Shorehouse for our 1st wedding Anniversary. We chose Scarborough as we had never ventured that way before, we chose the Shorehouse purely by chance out of what seemed like hundred of B&B's! It truely is a little treasure, the room was beautifully decorated with a big en-suite shower room, the bed comfy and the despite their being other people staying there, we never heard a soul. The breakfast was superb the best selection/choice we have ever experienced. The other half went for Full English every day, whilst I chose to try something different everyday, some of the choices being fresh fruit salad, cereals, stewed apricots, yogurts, danish pastries, peanut butter on toast (my favourite) and even a vegetarian Full English! Zoe was a great host, full of tips from where to visit to the best restaurants around, we even had a lovely box of chocolates waiting for us on the day of our Anniversay! This is by far the best B&B that we have ever stayed at and will recommend it to our friends and family without hesitation. We loved it and will definitely be going back! Thanks for a great stay, you have a cracking B&B! Aly & Gary

We stayed for 2 nights of pure Heaven. would have stopped longer if we could and will certainly return in the near future Spotless throughout, beautifully modern presentation. Zoe is a very welcoming, accomodating host, nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast was spot on both mornings. The bed was that comfortable I wanted to take it home, the whole room layout was the same.Having stopped all over the world upto six star Hotels I would rate the Shorehouse in my top 5 for overall satisfaction thank you so much Zoe, from Paul and Sue

Room Tip: They are all Excelletn
