The Sands - Sea Front Apartments
Certificate of Excellence

We stayed at the The Sands - Sea Front Apartments with my elderly grandmother. We had a great time. The apartment had an amazing view over the sea. I wish I lived there! The flat was very spacious and clean. There was beautiful pictures up on the walls. The bathrooms were equiped with towels, toiletries and dressing gowns. The sofas were very small but comfy. We chilled out on the Saturday night watch x-factor with fish and chips. If you want to go somewhere top class I recomend you stay there. It is a lot easier with children or elderly people than a hotel or B&B as you are stuck in a room. There are not many places in Scarborough that are top class places to stay. Go
for it! Car parking also great!!

We stayed in a garden room (last available) on a 2 night stay. We were welcomed by a member of staff in the car park who showed us to our accomomdation, which was clean and modern with excellent facilities. There was also a small welcome pack of essentials so we could have a drink when we arrived, and a dressing gown each was provided for our stay. The accomodation is safe and secure and situated on the front on the North Shore, in my opinion the nicest part of Scarborough. Booking out is quite early at 10.30am, this was ok for us but while we were booking out another family asked for a bit extra time before booking out and this was granted without a problem.
A final tip for people staying here. The folder in the room mentions a couple of places to eat including a local award winning fish and chip shop, well 2 doors away from the fish and chip shop is a new restaurant called Jeremy's. It only just opened the week we stayed and the food was fantastic and not over priced.

Booked at short notice. The apartment was a good size for the five of us. Furnished to a high standard with everything you could possibly need, including the WII game for the children. Fabulously positioned at Scarborough's sea front. The weather was almost springlike and the balcony afforded you an entertaining view of all the beach walkers. Sunday night brought a surprise firework display. Would definately return.

Self-catering at any price is usally frowned upon by many as having to "rough it", with many opting to pay extra for hotel service.

At least in Scarborough, there is now a better alternative. Well appointed & comfortable accommodation (make sure and book a sea view to add to the experience), like having 2 expensive hotel rooms bolted to each other, with the addition of a luxury kitchen, Sitting/dining area - a lot of space for your money!!

The kitchen (plus everything you'll ever need!!) allows guests to go fully self-catering, but with so many eateries (including a bar/diner) on your doorstep - the option is also there just to be catered for.

The sound of the sea at night is worth the extra (small) cost of the sea view, whereas the view of it shows just how small the extra charge is!!

Throw in the free use of the well-appointed gym - again with panoramic sea views, and it's hard to see what's missing for anyone to enjoy their stay... and come back for more. I've had 3 short breaks there this year, and looking forward to similar ones for 2010

Myself and my husband have just visited The Sands with our 21 month year old daughter.  I had already read the reviews and we were really excited and we weren't disappointed!  We arrived and a very well presented lady met us at the door and showed us upto the sales office, we were handed our key and pass etc and shown round our room (Which we upgraded from a non-sea view to a sea view room at the front, for a mear £10 per night).  We had a two bed apartment and the presentation of the apartment was brillant and very similar to our own house and tastes, it was fantastically equiped with a diswasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer and all plates etc.  We had travelled with our own travel cot and highchair, but they had them provided, so it is worth checking as it all saves space in the car, but what I liked was whoever had equiped the apartment really had thought from a family propective with iron and ironing board, buckets and spades to family board games.  We went for a long walk on the first day to Scarborough south bay (around 4 miles there and back, but well worth it), then on our return we called into the Blue Crush bar under the apartments which we really liked. The owner was very welcoming and was quick to re-assure us that our daughter was very welcome and he allowed children in until 11pm, this didn't apply to us on this occasion but we could see how this could suit other families in summer especially. The Blue Crush had a great menu and we ate there on two occasions, also the childrens menu is very appealing with fresh options instead of the usual rubbish some places serve. Overall I would recommend this complex to anyone, especially families!! As I mentioned before we had a two bedroom apartment and you could easliy accomodate 2 adults, 2 children and a cot (we shoved the chest a drawers up in the 2nd bedroom for the cot), obviously you would need to check, but I couldn't see why not. The only advice we would give is don't bother with the sea life centre!! it was very tired, run down and a complete rip off at £14 per adult (not sure what the child price was as it didn't apply to us) but we were very disappointed and wouldn't go again. However, you really couldn't go far wrong when staying at The Sands, the staff are excellent, very helpful and the apartments are amazing, we will definitely return, hope you enjoy it as much as we all did.

This is a lovely place to stay, modern, clean, bright and airy with wonderful views and sounds of the sea. I was really pleasantly surprised when we walked in at how much larger and more open the apartment was than I was expecting. It was lovely to sit on the balcony overlooking the beach after a busy day walking around Scarborough. The kitchen area also seemed well thought out, with washing machine, dishwasher, etc, although the finish around the sink area didn't seem quite as well done as the rest of the kitchen, it didn't cause us any problems but may need rethinking at some point.
Be careful with the towel heater in the ensuite bathroom, my husband got a minor burn on his arm from it, it gets very hot, however if we had switched it off after a few hours with towels on this would not have happened.
The staff were very helpful and the location is perfect.
I couldn't hear noise from other apartments which was good.
The restaurant downstairs had very good, reasonably priced food with welcoming staff and were family friendly, and the supermarket was well stocked enough for holidaying families.
A lovely touch was a letter put under the door each morning addressed to everyone booked in at The Sands giving the weather forecast for the day.

What a wonderful location these apts are! I've just come home from a weekend stay in the Sands and have had a fantastic time. I was there with an elderly parent and a young child, 7yrs, who were both well catered for. I'd advise the extra expense for a sea view as it was stunning! The apt was luxurious with everything you could want, with even little extras that will impress. We also found the staff friendly and helpful. I would definately stay there again and recommend anyone to stay there.
