After reading some reviews about the hotel, We were a bit apprehensive about our visit to Scarborough with Shearings. I'm pleased to say that my Wife and I need not have been concerned at all.
Our room key was given quickly on arrival to the hotel on the coach, and we were pleased with our room on the third floor. The lift is a bit old fashioned - so we climbed the stairs. Cases are taken to your room for you! That is a good service!
The bathroom was very clean - constantly heated bath towel, plenty of hot water. Very nice!
The bedroom was quite roomy. Marvelous view of the North Bay. Good wardrobe space and plenty of drawers for clothes etc. There is tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, TV (small) , plenty of electric sockets, electric alarm clock etc. - the only downside was that the carpet needed a good shampoo! The bed was comfortable- and most importantly - with clean sheets!
Food at the Hotel was very good. Dinner and breakfast has waiter service - there is a different choice of menu each day. Dinner is served with wine - how do they do it? Compliments to the waiters and kitchen staff. Special praise to Roland - a very pleasant waiter.
It is amazing that there is a free bar after 7.30pm - but it is most appreciated. There was a quiz and bingo each evening and also entertainment. When we were there, one of the visitors took the mike and sang Achy breaky heart, and Sweet Caroline - he was excellent! (I hope he reads this!) We enjoyed the drag artist too!
We went on 2 trips with Shearings. One day to York - and another day trip to Goathland (Heartbeat Country) and Witby. We enjoyed both trips.
One whole day was spent in Scarborough - what a lovely place. Lots of people walking dogs on the beach, ( it is January) - we walked to the Castle, all around the North Bay (saw porpoises out to sea), and to the shops which are a good 10 minutes walk from the hotel. People that live in Scarborough must love it and be very proud to live there.
Thankyou Shearings and The Norbreck Hotel for a very good value 5 day break.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

my wife and myself have just returned from a one night stay at the norbreck scarborough. this one night stay was part of a 'mystery twixmas trip' with national holidays. we only found out the destination a few days prior to going. i read the previous review and was a little apprehensive, though went with an open mind.i can only speak as i found the experience.
travelling from preston, we had further pick ups in stockport, ashton under lyne and oldham. we arrived in scaborough around 1pm. we were allocated room 105 on the first floor. check-in was swift. we found the room to be basic but was very clean. the bathroom was spacious and again spotless.after dumping the bags we spent our afternoon browsing around scarborough town centre. the trip included evening meal, 3 hours free bar, entertainment, bed and breakfast. it cost us £49 each (paid for by our son and daughter-inlaw for christmas). well, i can honestly say i dont know how they can make any profit. i presumed the evening meal would be of a carvery type, but i was pleasantly surprised to find there was atleast three hcoices of each course on the menu. also a free glass of wine. the staff were extremely polite and friendly. the food was absolutely lovely too!!. at 7-30 the free bar started, as did our evenings entertainment. our host for the night was dave davies. he gave us the option of bingo or quiz, then carried on the nights festivites with siginging, guitar insrumentals and a lot of laughs. we ended the night on the dancefloor. the bed was not the comfiest though the 3 hour free bar helped rock me to sleep!!. the morning brought a lovely breakfast, again served by lovely staff. a choice of cereals, toast, fruit and full english, polished of with pots of tea or coffee. after breakfast we had more free time to explore scarborough. we were eventually picked up again at 1-45pm for our return trip. as i said at the beginning, i only speak as i find and i found the norbreck a very pleasnt stay and a fantasic nights entertainment. well done norbreck and national holidays.

Room Tip: we had a lovely sea view from room 105

Just back from what was a one night break (Thank God) from this hotel. The room was far from clean and the decorating was badly in need of updating. The food was poor and badly cooked. The cups in the room were dirty and one still had sugar in the bottom!

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay. I am saddened to learn you did not enjoy your one night break. While some of the rooms are of an older style they should always be cleaned to a high standard and it is rare to receive compliants about cleanliness. I hope you would return to the hotel again to judge the Norbreck's complete holiday package over a number of days on one of our short breaks.
Best wishes

Having stayed at the Norbreck for a 5 day stay I have to say this is the most dismal hotel we have ever visited. Wallpaper coming off walls and ceiling, very threadbare carpet, and ripped curtains in our room. Dirty crockery , rude and bombastic deputy management - the list is endless. We are longstanding Shearings customers and have never experienced a hotel as bad as this one. The waiting on and bar staff were lovely but that is our only positive about the Norbreck.

Thank you for your review, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your break, while we are always happy to receive feedback I feel that your comments are disproportionately negative and are at odds with the majority of customer reviews. We will look into the concerns you raised and hope you will not be deterred from visiting Bay Holidays again.
Kind regards

Just returned from our first Shearings holiday. We are quite a young couple to be going on one of these weekend's but when we saw what you were getting for your money we just couldn't resist. The other holiday makers were so friendly. The staff were all really helpful especially Flordalisa our waitress for the weekend and John the barman. Daniel the host was fantastic. He was really good fun and made our stay all the more enjoyable. Chris the cabaret act on the saturday night was brilliant!! The room we had (room 101) was really nice with a great view over the sea. Thank you for a great introduction to Shearings holidays.

We have just returned from a weekend break at the Norbreck Hotel. The break was half board with a free bar for 3 hours each evening and we are still puzzling how they managed to do it at a profit..........plus we dont drink a lot!!!!!
The hotel is situated in an elevated point on the north side of the resort giving spectacular views of the coastline.
Food at the hotel is quite good, basic home cooking, served by friendly waiting staff and you get a glass of wine with dinner included if you book the inclusive deal.
Our room had a spectacular sea view,it was warm, clean but perhaps could have had a lick of paint and new carpets but for the price we paid we were more than happy.
Each evening the hotel offers entertainment..........a quiz, bingo and then a show.On both nights we thoroughly enjoyed the two performers Daniel and Chris.I wold recommend the Norbreck for a break its a short walk into the town and you will be made to feel very welcome.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view its worth it!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a two night "offer" on the 19th and 20th November 2011. I have to say this is the most basic hotel I have ever stayed in. I did get over the basic element quickly, but found it to be a very tired hotel, with extremely tired furniture and fittings. Our bedroom was dingy and very dusty (underneath the radiator and bed) and stained carpets. The tv system needs to be updated somewhat!! The bathroom also needs updating. The grouting needs attention as it makes it look grubby. However, from the bathroom window, we had the most fantastic sea view. I thought the stringent restaurant times were more like a boarding house. Dinner was 6.30 p.m. and breakfast only open until 9 a.m
Like the hotel, the meals were also very basic, but enjoyable and most of the staff are very friendly and extremely obliging. We only ate on the Friday night as we had arranged to meet up with friends who live in Scarborough. The amount and range of "free drinks" was very impressive. Looking at many of the guests in the evening, I cannot believe the weekend offer overall, can establish a profit. One great thing about the weekend was how lovely the weather was, for November, it was astounding, much warmer than some weekends in the summer!! We didn't see much of the evening entertainment, but everyone in the bar and lounge area were thoroughly enjoying themselves. If the hotel could be moderately modernised and the cleaning regime improved a bit, we would definitely return. Very good value for money
