After reading some reviews about the hotel, We were a bit apprehensive about our visit to Scarborough with Shearings. I'm pleased to say that my Wife and I need not have been concerned at all.
Our room key was given quickly on arrival to the hotel on the coach, and we were pleased with our room on the third floor. The lift is a bit old fashioned - so we climbed the stairs. Cases are taken to your room for you! That is a good service!
The bathroom was very clean - constantly heated bath towel, plenty of hot water. Very nice!
The bedroom was quite roomy. Marvelous view of the North Bay. Good wardrobe space and plenty of drawers for clothes etc. There is tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, TV (small) , plenty of electric sockets, electric alarm clock etc. - the only downside was that the carpet needed a good shampoo! The bed was comfortable- and most importantly - with clean sheets!
Food at the Hotel was very good. Dinner and breakfast has waiter service - there is a different choice of menu each day. Dinner is served with wine - how do they do it? Compliments to the waiters and kitchen staff. Special praise to Roland - a very pleasant waiter.
It is amazing that there is a free bar after 7.30pm - but it is most appreciated. There was a quiz and bingo each evening and also entertainment. When we were there, one of the visitors took the mike and sang Achy breaky heart, and Sweet Caroline - he was excellent! (I hope he reads this!) We enjoyed the drag artist too!
We went on 2 trips with Shearings. One day to York - and another day trip to Goathland (Heartbeat Country) and Witby. We enjoyed both trips.
One whole day was spent in Scarborough - what a lovely place. Lots of people walking dogs on the beach, ( it is January) - we walked to the Castle, all around the North Bay (saw porpoises out to sea), and to the shops which are a good 10 minutes walk from the hotel. People that live in Scarborough must love it and be very proud to live there.
Thankyou Shearings and The Norbreck Hotel for a very good value 5 day break.
