“Home from home (a plus with boisterous children)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

We stayed for 2 nights in the blue room which had been adapted to sleep two adults & two children & found everything perfectly lovely. We had a very warm greeting upon our rather late arrival & were shown to our stylish, clean room. The beds were super comfy & the family sized bathroom more than adequate but it was the way in which my children were made to feel at home that really impressed. The garden holds a wooden playset big enough to amuse our 7 & 9 year olds & the dolls & Lego were equally appreciated. David & Rosemary welcomed us into their home & made us feel relaxed & that nothing was too much trouble. Thank you to you both.

Just home from a stay at this lovely house. David and Rosemary are perfect hosts - they greeted us at the car to help us in with our luggage and gave us fresh coffee and cake. They have a way of making you feel like part of their extended family and went out of their way to accommodate us at short notice. We've stayed in many B&Bs and this is the best so far. Little touches like the hot chocolate and lovely biscuits in the room and homely cups and teapots - none of your mass manufactured white china here! The only problem was the weather but we're not blaming them for that!!! The lounge was huge and welcoming - one night we were offered some of David's sloe gin which was an experience in itself. Axie the large but very friendly german shepherd was an immediate hit with our daughter as he sings - we had never heard a dog that sang so well before! Breakfasts were great and at a time of our choosing (unlike the B&B we had just come from where we had to be up by 8.30am!) We highly recommend this B&B and will definitely be booking again - felt like we were leaving old friends, not simply B&B hosts.

Room Tip: The green room has a wet room with a fantastic shower.

We stayed 4 nights in the Green Room which has an ensuite wet room and great superking-size bed. Ideal for the less-abled of us. Great breakfasts just when we liked them, nothing too much trouble. Lovely mushroom omelette!
David and Rosemary let us treat their home like our own.
The local pub,(The Cannon) provided substantial evening meals and we didn't need anything but drinks whilst out during the day.

I'm disabled, in a wheelchair. My wife and I went there because it's disabled friendly. Brookfields proved to be better than I'd dared hope. It's run by a couple, David and Rosemary Zirker, who'd previously owned a nursing home and therefore understood my needs well. Our bedroom had a wetroom en suite which, of course, is ideal. There was plenty of room both sides of the bed. And the breakfasts were amazing. David and Rosemary seek out the best from every source, working on the principle that they give their guests what they themselves would like. And they are excellent and generous cooks. When we eating out at midday, we had the continental option - well, you can't do much with that, can you? It was fine, but not as extraordinarily yummy as the full English.
We really like the area, near Exeter, Exmouth and of course the Jurassic coast. On the Sunday evening we went into Exmouth, sat and watched the sun going down over the beach before going to one of our favourite churches in the town. Afterwards we sought out and sampled Krispies' award-winning fish and chips, which I have to say were just as good as their reputation. Back at the B&B we were plied with sloe gin and red wine - "and so to bed" after a great day.
I suppose what was best about Brookfields was the hospitality. It isn't the hotel-type B&B; it's not a chintzy guest house; it's very much a home. Even Axy, the dog, is friendly and welcoming. And of course you're not paying hotel prices. It's a good idea to phone before you go, as David and Rosemary will discuss your needs with you and do all they can to help.

Room Tip: If you're disabled, then Green is the one for you. You'll find David and Rosemary very helpf...

David and Rosemary were perfect hosts. From the greeting at the Car to the Tea and scones on arrival. The room was very comfortable with a wet room for an ensuite. Comfortable beds gave us a good nights sleep and Breakfast was cooked to order at a time to suit us with anything we wanted. Nothing seemed too much trouble.
I would highly recomend this B&B and will definately visit again.
PS They have a really lovely very friendly dog.

Room Tip: We had the green room with ensuite shower in wet room.

David and Rosemary were perfect hosts. We had the blue room which was very spacious with fabulous en-suite bathroom with a lovely deep bath, which was very welcome to soak away the aches and pains from a 12 mile walk in the beautiful local countryside. The breakfast was cooked to perfection with a good choice and served at a time to suit us. The offer of a cream tea after our long hike was gratefully received too! Would love to return again sometime!
