“Yet another couple of 'returners'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2014

Being yet another couple of 'returners' we can only echo Liz R's fulsome praise! Where else could you find a hotel that ticks all the right boxes?
Food - excellent, imaginative menus, everything cooked to perfection and no request too much trouble.
Cleanliness - sparkling everywhere, simply spotless.
Comfort - bliss (no rowdy music, wonderfully quiet) lovely comfortable lounge and armchairs.
Staff - extraordinarily helpful, always cheerful but never overwhelming.
Situation - the grounds are a joy to behold, in particular the wonderful Foxglove Tree.
Can't wait to go back again in September when I know we'll receive the same warm welcome we've always had in previous years!

Taking someone with special needs away is never easy but the staff made the whole experience absolutely wonderful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The menu was very suitable for all dietary needs so that made life even easier. We are very much looking forward to returning again next year.

Don't let the 2* rating put you off, this hotel offers so much more. I've stayed in a lot worse 4* hotels. We stayed over Easter Weekend. Recommended by friends.
Such a friendly welcome, everything explained and nothing too much trouble. Beautifully clean, well appointed and a comfortable sized room. Comfortable lounge and bar, great ambience throughout.
Dinners and breakfasts were perfectly cooked, well presented on hot plates. Plenty choice and variety on the menu. Breakfast is a mixture of self service for cereals, fruit etc, cooked breakfast is chosen from a menu at your table , hot coffee/tea etc brought to you along with toast.
Beautiful well kept grounds surround the hotel with plenty places to sit and enjoy the tranquility. (Spot the golf clubs and balls by the front door as you enter, you can even play some pitch n put on the lawns).
All staff were so very friendly and helpful. Guests seemed very happy too, several small groups who return year after year is proof that the hotel is doing plenty right.
Great quality, family values, good ambience, wonderful food. Who needs more?

.

Room Tip: Plenty ground floor well thought out rooms for the less able bodied guest.

We were really taken care of by the staff. Our room, with balcony was wonderful. The food was excellent, with a simple coding system to identify gluten free or vegetarian. We ate very well! Nothing was too much for the staff, who always had a smile on their faces. In fact we enjoyed it so much that we have booked to go back next year!

Room Tip: Look at the photos on the hotel's website.

Just returned from a relaxing stay in Sidmouth, at the Hunters Moon Hotel. Wonderful place. Georgian, elegant, civilised, no children, no music, excellent cuisine, how hotels used to be. Miss Marple couldn't make it, but you had the feeling she'd have liked to come.

There was a real "step back in time" quality to Hunters Moon which we both really appreciated. Friendly staff, clean linen, lovely atmosphere. When we stayed (March 2014) the age-range of the other guests was 65-upwards, and mostly upwards. I'm 53 and for the first time for years felt really young. Hunters Moon is probably not best suited for children, but that makes it all the more appealing for those without families in tow.

Stayed here over Christmas 2013 with my wife, 87 year old father and 30 year old son. Excellent four day Christmas break with very good service and food. Plenty of car parking, large grounds and adjacent to the Byes and the River Sid. Good choices of food and always plenty to eat. Good walks nearby so no need to use the car. Will definitely be back sometime.

We decided to spend it in Sidmouth, a place to which my late in laws retired in 1973.
The Hunter's Moon was where they stayed for 2 nights 40 years ago before moving into their new home & my husband remembered them praising it then.
We were not disappointed. It is a beautiful building with an interesting history, within its own grounds running alongside the River Sid. It is within walking distance of the main town.
We chose a downstairs bedroom with wet room as my husband has Parkinson's. He is still very mobile but would recommend for disabled guests as well. The beds were very comfortable and our chosen room number 16, which was very spacious had a little balcony overlooking the grounds and the private gate to the River Sid walkway.
It was only a one night stay but there was complimentary tea in the afternoon on arriving, an excellent evening meal with a choice of menus. The tables had crisp white linen. The waitress service was very efficient, no waiting between courses and afterwards coffee tea etc. was "help yourself" in the choice of 3 lounges.
The middle lounge by the front door was not carpeted and this was for guests who wished to bring their dog. That really is an extra plus point for this hotel.
Breakfast was also an excellent menu, with an amazing choice that would suit every guest.
Whilst most of us there in December were older guests, that suited us down to the ground, we wanted peace & quiet & we certainly got it.
I was glad they had WIFI, it was only in the lounge area however.
The staff were so friendly & the place was tastefully decorated for Christmas. We shall return.
Jill A. Smith. P.S. Thank you for my birthday card, a nice touch.

Room Tip: Look online and you can see each individual room especially the bathroom layout.
