A cracking little hotel. Unrepentantly, unashamedly, and justly proud of its old fashioned values - your room number identifies your table at breakfast! Exceptionally friendly staff provide seamlessly good service on well worn castors. It's not posh or pretentious, but it does stick up for short breakfast and dinning hours, limited facilities and basic but necessary comforts. I loved it. And I think so did all the other guests not so many of whom were younger than 60. The only critical improvement would be comfy seats in the glorious garden.

Sufficient to say I have been staying in hotels for just 50 years and this was the most enjoyable experience I can recall. Atmosphere, service and food were all exemplary.

This might not be the ideal place for young families with children but for those of us at a certain stage of life it is ideal.

For those of a certain age and with some mobility issues this establishment feels safe, caring and comfortable. The staff are attentive and considerate. Even if you are younger and fully fit this is a delightful slightly old fashioned haven and non the worse for that. The food is good straightforward standard fare, nothing too fancy foreign sounding or looking and superbly cooked. Served promptly and piping hot, especially the breakfasts. The standard of housekeeping is exceptional, the NHS & 5 star hotels could learn a lesson here. The quiet location next to a lovely park and stream makes this unique for a seaside hotel. Bit gloomy on a dull wet day, making the hotels on the seafront and those more elevated with views more appealing. The trick is to use them for your morning coffee or afternoon tea and retreat to the secret Hunters Moon, for the soft murmuring of subdued conversation over a relaxing pre-dinner snifter. All so terribly civilised and British. Amidst the scent of trees and moss dappled paths, with Rovers and Austins afar, Betjeman would have been happy here.

Room Tip: Maybe the rooms overlooking rear car park, the open back door to the kitchen emitting loud conversations from staff and adjacent to road to be avoided, but that's being very very picky.

We stayed in Room 35 on first floor. Parking virtually outside the door. Room very well decorated with big bathroom and impressive shower. Meals were excellent with good variety. Staff very helpful and friendly. Free wi-fi in the lounge. Dress code casual.
Hotel has big well maintained grounds adjacent to the Byes. Short walk into town centre and seafront.
If you like Sidmouth this is a great location.

Room Tip: Some rooms on ground floor have a small balcony that overlooks grounds.

Just returned from a 2 night’s stay having booked the day before. Had 2 single rooms which were, I say double. Clean well equipped, quiet, comfortable beds and lovely bathroom

I stayed in room 37 which is on the second floor along the corridor into the newer part, while my Mother stayed in room 6 which is in the front of the house.

The lounge is welcoming just like the staff, the dinning room is very relaxed and the gardens are great to take your drink out on to and sit out in the sun.

Food was nice and always served hot.

Easy to walk through the gate in the grounds into the adjoining park through to the shops and sea front. Brisk walk and you will be on the sea front within 15mins

I will be back and recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Look on the Hotels web site to see the rooms and locations
