“THE 2 STAR HOTEL WITH 5 STAR SERVICE”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

My wife & I stayed here for 3 nights over Christmas this year. From the welcoming pot of tea, sandwiches & cakes, all the staff could not have been more friendly and the service quality could not have been bettered in one of Sidmouth's many 4* hotels. All the meals throughout our stay were quite superb. Even our dog was made welcome. A memorable break and I'm sure we will return.

I paid my first visit to Hunters on Saturday 17th November. If all my overnights (I am a writer) were as relaxed, as hospitable, as comfortable and as peaceful as mine was on this night then traveling would be a lot more enjoyable. My room was clean and the Victorian style bathroom made a welcome change from the more modern hotels. Not only was the quality and quantity of the breakfast outstanding, so was the service. Upon learning that my laptop computer was unable to hook into the hotels wi-fi Mr Hunter kindly leant me his to enable me to check-in on-line for my flight back to Paris later the following morning. So, a jolly relaxing stay and a place to which I intend to return on my next visit to Sidmouth.

The hotel is nicely located near the River Sid, with friendly staff and a lovely breakfast. The hot drinks were good but I was surprised that there were no biscuits or bottles of water. The bathroom was nice with a decent shower but the bed could have been more comfortable.

An attractive hotel in a very pleasant location. Clean comfortable room, spacious lounge comfortably furnished, excellent meals and above all a friendly, helpful, welcoming staff. We had a very enjoyable stay and would like to thank all at Hunters Moon for looking after us so well. Ian & Kathleen Holmes, Warwickshire

Our third visit to this small hotel set in tranquil parkland and adjacent to National trust grounds.
Rooms are spacious and quiet and the food offered is first class and plentiful. Aperfect place for those seeking a restful stay free from Hustle and bustle and noisy entertainment.Perfect for the over 60's

Room Tip: Garden rooms have an attractive outlook

IF this establishment wants to improve it's ocupancy levels and be competitive it will have to up it's game by putting the guests first, provide better value for money and not rely on it's park-like location & exisiting ever-returning loyal senior guests.
Meal time serving windows of 75 minutes for breakfast and a mere one hour for dinner, whilst no doubt is convenient for the management and staff, is very inflexible for guests, During our stay a fellow guest complained that by eating dinner late, tables were being set for breakast at all around them and the cheese board was not available. The coffee dispenser is removed from the dining room moments after the last diner has served themsleves and the empty coffee cups just as quickly collected so that staff can go home and the hotel effectively shut up shop for the night.
For a 2 star hotel the food is 3 star and excellent with a good choice, delivered to your table very quickly and with immense politeness. You have just enought time to catch your breath between courses.
The bedrooms are generally far more austere than the website or the tired photographs in the entrance display board would have you believe. Bathrooms are immaculate though.
But for £73/£88 per person per night it's too much - there are 3 star hotels not far away that charge near enough this, and even offer better deals than a night free when booking 3 nights. Even older people Google search and are more price savy these days!
Hunters Moon closes in January then charges £71 per night D B & B in February - compared with a local 3 star that charges £49 D B & B for a minimum of 2 nights.
Peaceful pleasant and very middle class Ye Olde English which is lovely but the world has moved on and to survive so must the Hunters Moon, not so much as to spoil the ambience but to
remain viable and competitive.

Room Tip: Some rooms a long convoluted hike if you are less than mobile - but all are quiet.

Been to Hunter's Moon on a number of occassions now. Staff are always so welcoming and pleasant and eager to help and please, nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are clean, althought could do with updating, as old fashioned or pine furniture now showing age. No shower over bath was very dissappointing. Food is always nice, but must be used to eating early as dinner is 6.30pm - 7.30pm, but this seems to suit most of their clientele whom are of late retirement age, but at least the is no queue for the bar after 9.30pm! Overall everything is lovely but they seem to have taken their eye off the ball recently and become complacent, shame.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms more up to date than upper floor rooms
