“Under £50 - Worth Paying”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

A room plus breakfast for less than £50 most often begs the question of what am I not paying for? Staying for the night over the Bank Holiday myself and a number of friends used the hotel for its proximity to Knutsford and found clean rooms and great service from staff willing to open the bar for a night-cap as we crawled into bed at 1am. It doesn't take a genius to see that the rooms are old but have been updated to keep in line with the brand and offer comfortable, clean and straight-forward rooms. The hotel doesn't exactly sparkle like a new build but certainly delivers on everything a under £50 hotel should do. For that price I wouldn't hesitate staying again.

Room Tip: Try to keep in the newer building where the rooms are slightly larger. 117 is a good sized double ro...

We booked a "superior" king size room - there was NOTHING superior about the room at all!!! Very disappointing for a Mercure hotel and not up to standard at all. The King Size bed was actually two singles joined together and if you tried to lay in the middle of the bed you just rolled into the joining part of the beds. I couldn't work out if there was a demon upstairs charging around the place in the early hours (around 4am) or if it was a bulldozer however one of the bangs was that loud the bed seemed to shake - this happened on both nights several times. The shower didn't look like it had seen a good clean for a long time (black round the seal area) and there was only ONE BATH TOWEL for us both. The water pressure was also poor and trickled out. To say this was a "newly" decorated room it didn't look like it had had a refurb since I was born (over 20years ago!!!) We had the DND sign on the door which the maid completely ignored - she then also left us one bath towel to share AGAIN. The Free WIFI doesn't work I had "GPRS" on my mobile which was quicker. P.S - THERE'S NO LIFE AND DON'T EXPECT ANY HELP WITH YOUR BAGS :) - Traveldoge would have been a better option. Find a Premier Inn if you can the service & rooms are a lot better than here.

Room Tip: Another hotel!!!

Stayed here last weekend on a fully inclusive (read the terms carefully) deal. Areas of the hotel do need a spruce up but it was clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant food was very good for the class of hotel. Buffet style breakfast just as you would expect in most hotels. Leisure facilities were included in our deal, the pool,sauna/steam/room/gym were all spotless. Only thing missing from the leisure centre was some background music

Room Tip: Superior doubles are roomy

We recently spent a 2 night break at this hotel together with some friends. Prior to arriving we checked out reviews on trip advisor and were very concerned about the negative reports it got. However, during the time we were there we had very little to complain about. The hotel is in a good and very nice location, it is modern and well furnished and the reception area is plain but acceptable with very pleasant staff. The dining room is very modern, bright and airy with air conditioning and the food is very good. The evening menu for the 2 nights we stayed was the same, but this didn't matter for our short stay. The breakfast, both continental and full English is excellent and after a full breakfast we didn't really need to eat again until the evening. We were upgraded to a higher standard room so cannot comment on the quality of a basic room. The only negative was the quality of the carpet at the rear stairs. It needs replacing badly. Adjacent to the hotel is a leisure facility which was free of charge to us and was also excellent. All together a very good hotel that doesn't deserve some of the very negative reports that have been written about it.

Room Tip: Our room backed onto the rear car park and was quiet. No aircon and no lifts

Stayed for one night last week and won't be staying again. Issues with lost bookings, rude staff, shocking rooms & dated surroundings. They could at least buy the cleaners a Hoover and fix the broken doors & tatty fixtures. Loved the location but will never stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for one night with a week's parking and taxis to / from the airport included. This is clearly a package they market.

But they had no lifts (or at least I couldn't find them) so I had to carry our holiday suitcases upstairs.

The breakfast was poor value. I'd finshed mine before they replenished the bacon! Like many hotels, it's a buffet style - even for the coffee.

The ambiance is good and the room was comfortable.

When the taxi arrived to take us to the airport, they clearly weren't prepared for a family of four with four suitcases plus hand luggage. I don't think it should have been a surprise when that's what we were there for! But what was worse was when we were collected late at night from the airport. After a long day travelling with sleepy children, the driver wanted me to find him, several floors up - in the 'departature' area. As I didn't know where to go, and with suitcases and kids, I wasn't too happy and told him to find us where the other taxis were in 'arrivals'. The reson? Manchester airport's policy of charging the drivers for coming into that area. And when he arrived, it was in a smaller car. So I endured the ride back to the hotel with a suitcase on my lap! So the taxi firm connected with this hotel need to get their act together.

Room Tip: Let them know you will be carrying suitcases and be prepared! And if you need a taxi service to / fr...
