Visited the Vic to entertain a business colleague from Australia at a typical English pub. Typical it is not! A cosy, intimate dining area spilling into the lounge & bar set the scene for a menu full of local produce influenced dishes that are classic with a little extra. We had the Goats Cheese & Lamb Spring Rolls for starters followed by brilliantly prepared sirloins with thick cut chips & a very novel peppercorn sauce. All washed down with cask ale & a glass of Spanish red.
Service was friendly & obliging. The price was a bit more than you'd expect in a pub although it was worth any penny. A stand-out amongst the other pubs in the area!

Brilliant! Great menu. Lovely set up. We had musscles for starters, rabbit and veal (Rose) for mains and cheese and biscuits and port for dessert. The service, food and ambiance was fantastic!

A favourite with family friends this lovely pub serves the most amazing food and specialises in offering the very best of local produce. Owned by a chef and wife team the staff are part of it's charm and I have never had anything other than delicious food and great service here. Try b;ack pudding soctch eggs with homemade picalilli, OMG just wonderful as are the roasts, game in season and steaks plus the fish pie and prawn risotto. Deserts are a must and portion sizes just right. The Victoria serves some lovely unusual non alcoholic drinks and lemonades in addition to having a good selection of local ales and fine wines. It has a warm and cosy atmoshpere, I have often taken a newspaper and sat over a leisurely lunch with a glass of wine on a gloomy day as a real pick me up!

Early evening meal. Really nice atmosphere and surroundings. Lovely food and excellent service. The seasonal pheasant on the specials board was very tasty and my sons steak melt in the mouth!

We chose The Victoria based on the reviews here on Tripadvisor - and they're dead right! We had a weekday lunch here and chose dandelion and burdock from the Temperance bar - very nice. We then had the burger with blue cheese which was served with a mountain of piping hot fries, and the sausage and mash which came with a red onion sauce and onion rings. All cooked to perfection and every mouth a delight. The service was excellent and the music was so good I've started a similar collection at home.
One tiny niggle - the restaurant was chilly, but this was just as the weather had taken a wintery turn for the worst.
The restaurant is conveniently located just off the main shopping area with cheap parking in a multi-storey just around the corner.
