“Two night stay breakfasts and first night dinner included”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

We booked a table for 1730, which is when the restaurant opens.

Being an early booking, we had the restaurant to ourselves. Nice and quiet and service was great.

Started off with nice crispy fishcakes.

It was a Friday, which is "Fish Night" so Fish and chips was an added option. Nice crispy batter, no bones in fish, tartar sauce and peas."Proper" Chips ( must have been about half a potato each). All delicious.

Followed up with Bread and Butter Pudding and trio of Ice creams.

Breakfasts were much busier and service good.

Starter Buffet with usual choices of drinks, yogurt, fruit, cereals etc. We opted for the cooked breakfast. Sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding, haggis and tomato. Just the right amount for us. Many other choices on menu.

The restaurant staff, and the rest of the hotel staff were all very friendly and efficient.

“Fantastic service”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

My wife and I have just returned from a week in Ballater we ate in the Deeside Inn on 3 occasions. Our first evening Saturday 10th August we had a bar meal when we ordered the barman warned us that we may have a wait as there was a table of 6 & a table of 10 in front of us. After checking with the chef he informed us that the wait, 'should not be too long'. it wasn't & food was more than acceptable for bar food.
We then ate there again on the Wednesday, this time in the restaurant, when they have a 'steak night' where they offer a 1/2 bottle of wine with every steak. Food was excellent, steaks cooked too perfection and once again service was top class.
Finally, we dined in the bar on the Friday where I had the haddock & chips and my wife the 'steak burger'. Both very good quality for bar food and excellent service.
We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough when it comes to good value food and service whether that be in the bar or restaurant.

“Room for Improvement”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Following a change in management and staff, my husband and I returned to the Deeside Inn to see how it had changed/improved. Although we did not have the best experience, it is certainly an improvement from the last time we visited. Previously we did not get all of our courses, and were ignored by the staff and had to complain.
On this occasion the food was improved (we visited for the Sunday lunch special - a starter and a roast), and we got all of our food (though we could have done with more veg - I counted 3 strips of carrot and 4 green beans) . There was however a 25 minute wait between courses (when the restaurant was not that busy) and no one apologised for the delay. Our starters had arrived speedily, but the wait was for our main courses. We also we not asked if we would like another drink (our drinks were finished just after we finished our starters ), nor offered sauces with our mains (we heard other diners being offered and this was probably a mistake).
The service has improved since last time, but there is some way to go. Will not hurry back.

“Adequate”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

When we came to Ballater to stop off for lunch we went here as it was the nearest place to our car. The service was quite slow and half the members of my party had to wait another 5 minutes after the other half of the group received their meal. One member had Cullen Skink which was quite disappointing although the panini I ordered was decent enough. The staff were friendly enough even if they were somewhat laid back.

Not an awful place but wouldn't exactly be rushing to come back here on my next visit to Ballater
