We live only 20 minutes away and have become regulars to Rocksalt and Snails. This is a tip top places for a fine lunch that offers both the usual and the less usual. We try and go as often as we can but sadly the secret is out and more and more folks are discovering this hidden secret in the heart of Deeside. They do one of the smoothest lattes in the North East. The team are fab and will always do their best to find you a seat. A super wee eatery and far outstrips the other more traditional places in Ballater.

Went for a run to Ballater on a lovely February day and decided to pop in here for lunch. What a lovely place, great service, superb food and quite a lot of choices. The Deer Stalker Pie was a delight as was the bruschetta and feta cheese. Lovely flat white coffee too, or you can have a glass of wine if you wish. Will certainly return here when I am back in Ballater.

Stopped here for a late lunch after a days on the hills before heading home.

Tasty soup & pannini. Good coffee too.

The only thing I would say is it was bit pricey, but it is Deeside & Deeside tends to be in general.

We popped in twice; once for paninis and once for coffee and cake. It's a lovely, cosy place with a wood burning fire at the back and a very welcoming atmosphere as a warm retreat from the Scottish winter.

The paninis were tasty, with an interesting salad and cous cous. Cakes were nice, and the coffee was particularly good.

Definitely a good choice for when visiting Ballater!

Trendy cafe with good choice of food that was all home- made/ prepared. Really tasty food just right for mid day snack coming in out of the cold.

Licensed too but we chose to have a coffee!
