“Great Walking”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

About 8 or 9 miles from Ballater along a single track road. There is a car park at the end destination - £3 for cars.
There is a visitor centre and toilets are also available. There are a number of walks but we decided to do the one that takes you all the way around the loch. It is 8 miles and took us about 2 hrs 45 mins walking at a reasonably good pace and with a couple of short breaks. The path is very good except for a mile or two where there are a number of rocks on the path to manoeuvre - but not drastic. This is a low level walk and does not require you to climb any hills!
At the far end of the loch there are some nice waterfalls to photograph plus there is a house built by Queen Victoria and which is still owned by the Royal Family. There is open access to the grounds and you can walk around the outside of the house.
A great walk.

“ACCESSIBLE WILD COUNTRY”
Reviewed May 27, 2014

A wonderful spot for an easy 7 mile walk around the Loch. It is remarkable there is a road to the head of the Loch, and a Visitor Centre with excellent information, and toilets! The walking is mostly on Land Rover tracks except for a short section of single file walking over rocks. The views throughout the walk can be stunning, especially on a quiet day when the mountains are reflected in the Loch. There is a car park charge - £3 - but I feel it is great value as a contribution to the upkeep of the paths and bridges. However only 50% of the cars using the area seemed to agree - shameful! Watch out for Ranger events to see the deer and learn more about the wildlife.

“Enjoyable walk with great scenery.”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

Worth the effort getting here. Single track road / passing places for much of the way from Ballater. Good car parking - £3. Great views all the way round the loch - we did however have 4 seasons in the 3 hours it takes to walk round the loch. Most of the walk is on easy paths however there is a bit of scrambling at the top end of the loch so would advise decent walking shoes / boots.

“Wildlife and beauty”
Reviewed May 16, 2014

As a kid, my dad took me to see rabbits and herds of red deer. Every time I saw enough for a lifetime. Scenery is amazing, just ask Prince Charles. He wrote a book about this place!!!
