Owner description: Neighbouring Balmoral Castle, Royal Lochnagar is the perfect place to discover how Scotch Whisky is made. Watch as our team of operators tend to our traditional mashtun, gleaming copper stills and fill casks at our traditional distillery, which retains much of its original charm. The tour ends with a dram of the award-winning Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old Single Highland Malt.

Fiona was our guide and was very patient in answering questions and taking us through the hour long tour of the distillery. The wee bit of sweetness after the tour was a great way to end it!

My husband and I took a tour through the distillery at Royal Lochnagar and not only was it very informative of the process, it was very clean and impressive. A very hands on tour. Although the distillery was quite tricky to find (it was not in our GPS), it was well worth the time. Make sure to plan ahead to arrive at your tour time. The tour takes 45 minutes and we had a tasting at the end. I will take friends back soon!

Very knowledgeable tour guide took us nearly everywhere to explain the production process. She was able to answer every question we asked about the distillery, the production process, and scotch in general.

Tasting at the end of the tour was interesting.

Not sure why they charge for the tour when you can join the "Friends" club and get in free. They should have offered that option at the beginning.

My husband and I spent a very interesting afternoon at the Lochnagar Distillery, and were lucky to be the only two on a guided tour so we benefited fully from the guides in depth knowledge and enthusiasm for the distilling process. The tasting at the end was interesting having learned so much more about the process, but it didn't convert me to a whiskey lover! My husband and guests are still enjoying the bottle of Lochnagar we took home with us.

Whilst staying in Braemar visited this distillery as part of a 'taste of Scotland' tour. It is situated on the Balmoral estate and there is ample car and coach parking as well as a great souvenir shop. The guides who met us were very friendly and welcoming. They took us on a full tour of the distillery and encouraged questions. We were able to see all the processes and sniff a number of whiskeys of different ages maturing, Their pride and joy was a barrel of 60 year old whiskey which is to be bottled for the Queen's jubilee. At the end of the tour we were given a generous taster sample which all enjoyed. There was also the opportunity to buy various whiskeys and other souvenirs.
You are also given the opportunity to join ,free of charge , a club which gives you free entry to a number of other distilleries.
