Owner description: Balmoral is the Scottish home of the British Royal Family. The Castle Ballroom, gardens and exhibitions are open from the 29th March until the 31st July. Visitors are able to view the Castle Ballroom, the largest room in the Castle, used for a number of formal occasions when Her Majesty is in residence. This is a rare opportunity to see many original pieces of fine art and treasures which normally reside within the private rooms of the Castle. An audio tour is included in the admission price and guides visitors around the formal and production gardens as well as a number of other exhibitions located within the stable block. In 2013 visitors area able to enjoy an exhibition of photographs of the Royal Family by Cecil Beaton. The exhibition is organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum London and contains over forty fascinating images. Other displays include a native wildlife exhibition, a look at the Royal Yacht Britannia, a year in the life of Balmoral and our Balmoral audio visual presentation. We have a spacious self service cafe and gift shop selling a wide range of Balmoral souvenirs. Walks and trails are waymarked on the estate so visitors can enjoy a leisurely riverside walk or more strenuous exploration of the many commemorative cairns located within the grounds. Please note that Balmoral closes to visitors on the 31st July. The room open to visitors in the Castle is the Ballroom. Other rooms in the Castle form part of Her Majesty's private residence and as such are not open to the public.

the gardens where lovely.Unfortunatly some deer had got in over night and eaten the roses.Thought the outside castle looked like it could do with a good clean and did not find the inside of any interest.was rather dissappointed with the visit after such a long journey to get there.would not revisit.

“Wish I could spend the night !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

I am quite simply ... a lover of castles! This particular holiday was a dream come true - driving through the Scottish country side taking all the time in the world to visit stunning amazing ancestral homes and castles. Balmoral was high on my list. I was extremely lucky the day that I visited in late June, as the sun was shining and the castle grounds looked picture perfect. Royal Deeside is the true show stopper here. The drive from my hotel ( Hilton Craigendarroch ) was dreamlike, winding through the countryside and as I approached the Balmoral Estate, the Castle hidden from view and the thought crossed my mind ... what a magical location this really is. I can see why the Royal Family choose to spend so much time here. The staff at the gate house was helpful and informative and I opted to catch the shuttle to the castle and walk back. ( I think that is a nice option if you are pushed for time ) I agree with many of the other reviews - there isn't really a lot to see and do here. Apart from viewing the ballroom in the Castle itself and the stables etc. The gift shop is great if you want an upmarket souvenir and the tea house makes a very nice cup of tea in deed. Worth the visit - absolutely ! I am hard to please when it comes to castles and the building is architecturally pleasing. It has a "homely feel " and what I wouldn't give to spend the night !

Castle is the Royal Family holiday home.....you only get into the ballroom and exhibitions in the stables but enjoy the grounds and the trails and fresh mountain air.
