“Best in town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

Management and i stopped here for lunch today on the recommendation of a local shopkeeper. Excellent unpretentious food. This is just a cafe at lunch time so do not expect linen, The girls work incredibly hard the place is very nicely decorated and has been made into a fascinating space, Easily the best station conversion i have ever seen, The food is designed to be simple and comforting and it is really well cooked and really well served. If we are here again we will eat here again without hesitation. You will not be dissapointed.

Our table was ready and waiting for us, service was good and the food was very good and quantity adequate for lunchtime. Lemon cake is just wonderful!

“food good to very good in quality, service was good during our visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012

We were there at a time later than 2 pm. Therefore there was not much customers there. The food is of good to very good standard. The smoked salmon was very good. The soup was good. The waitress were friendly.

“Second Class Service At This Station”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2012

In the centre of Ballater, adjacent the railway museum, the Station Restaurant is in a prime location to catch the many tourists that visit this delightful Deeside town. So I was a little surprised to find so many empty tables during Saturday lunchtime.
It’s not the decor putting people off as the period furnishings blend in well with the neighbouring museum. So is it the menu? No this was varied offering a variety of light snacks and full on lunches. Perhaps the price is a deterrent as all are a touch on the high side for fairly ordinary food. Or, perhaps word of the poor service has circulated throughout the town.
The waiting staff spent more time chatting loudly and giggling in the kitchen, which was very audible to diners, than attending to their customers. To get service, customers had to approach the kitchen and at one point, potential customers arrived, waited and eventually left as all the staff ignored them and continued chatting in the kitchen.
