The food was reasonably well done, but the service lets the pub down - it was slow and inattentive. We had to catch the waitress's eye too many times.

Just before Christmas isn't perhaps the best time to go for a pub meal, it's all so standardised. A simple lunchtime pub meal was all we wanted. £12+ was the price of a single course which I thought a bit steep for fish and chips. However, the fish was great and the batter light and crispy to perfection. Pea puree and chips nice too but could have been more of it. But only one draught ale and slow service given how few people were in there. And we got a free cracker.

The 3 Tuns is a very pretty village pub which has recently been greatly extended and refurbished. Given that considerable investment, what a pity, then, that the food doesn't live up to expectations. Although nicely presented, many dishes appear to be too high in fat, salt or sugar (as appropriate) and you end up going home to fill up afterwards as the portions tend to be "artistic but small".

Although the serving staff are generally pleasant, I find it amazing that there is no interest shown by the management or staff in gaining any feedback on the customer's experience. A simple feedback questionnaire would allow frank and valuable comments to be made. Rather, the attitude seems to be "as we're fully booked, take it or leave it". Hmmm ... well in that case ...! With more thought about the recipes used, larger portions and genuine interest shown in customers' views, the enormous potential of this pub/restaurant could well be fulfilled.

There is something stopping this chef from reaching the heights he could attain; lack of attention to detail? Laziness? Not sure what it is but it's a shame. We had lunch: chicken baguette for my partner, which he enjoyed very much, and broccoli and stilton soup for me, followed by the autumnal bavarois. The soup was far too creamy - that might sound like a strange complaint but it's true, too much cream can be, and was, unpleasant. The taste of the bavarois dish was absolutely lovely but I think that the bavarois itself should have been smooth rather than having fruit in it as the wonderful texture of a bavarois is its main selling point; as it was, the mashed up champagne jelly was lumpy, the bavarois was lumpy, the compote was lumpy and there was grated orange zest for even more harshness in the mouth. Had the bavarois been smooth it would have all worked and been very interesting. Yes, I know, incredibly pernickety! But Chris, the chef and owner, does give the impression of aiming high so therefore reviews should be precise. If he read them and did something about it, he could be great. But he isn't fulfilling his potential. Oh, yes, and the tuille was stale and flabby. What chef who is proud and caring of what he produces, serves a soggy tuille? Pull your socks up, Chris.

Whilst this is a restaurant review it has to be said that the occasion was made more enjoyable by the very friendly and fun waiter and waitress that served us. A little untrained round the edges but their light hearted attitude was a pleasant change. The occasion was a friends birthday and a small group had gathered to celebrate. Only one of us chose a starter, crispy chicken livers, but delicious bread and butter was served whilst the others waited. For mains the popular selection on a cold night was the beef daube, voted excellent, with a roast cod or pork belly a close second. All portions of good size and quality. For desert the Berry Bavarois was favourite. However the warm treacle tart was a little disappointing as the topping had been refined to a smooth paste rather than the more rustic crispy top. Overall a most enjoyable meal in a full restaurant will be remembered for a while.
