Easy check in, comfortable spacious bedroom. Ate in cocktail bar, food very good served by excellent staff. Main bar no atmosphere and cold. Good variety at breakfast. Very good food in Wineglass restaurant. Let downs were no hot water Saturday evening and receptionist not bothered when informed. Mentioned on checkout but again staff offered no explanation and were not overly concerned. Also no mention of wedding fayre at time of booking. Complete chaos at breakfast. Had to ask 3 times asked for toast and coffee which was blamed on the wedding fayre. Beautiful hotel, staff very friendly apart from 2 on reception. The hotel let themselves down by not being able to cope at breakfast because of the wedding fayre. Not a very good advert for a wedding venue!

Dear wendy m,

Thank you for your recent review. I was pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay and our food.
I am sorry to hear that you had a less than brilliant end to your stay. Unfortunately on this occasion we fell short of the high standards we set ourselves. I do hope that soon you will give us another chance so we can prove this is most definitely not our usual standard.

Kind regards,

Nice hotel. Room was clean and modern and bed was very comfy. Had an early night but was woken at midnight by drunk cockneys who cant handle their drink arguing, fighting and crying. Breakfast was ok but the fresh orange was watered down. Just found out there is a wedding show on tomorrow so have to go somewhere else for breakfast. No mention of this when booking

We had a voucher from Travel Zoo for a 2 course meal for two with a glass of prosecco on arrival. The only slight criticism is that the TV was on in the bar and there wasn't anything special on just tthe normal Saturday evening stuff which spoilt the ambience a little. The service was a little slow because they had a wedding onand the bar person kept disappearing? The waiting staff were friendly, on a minor point could have asked if we wanted more bread especially as we had a mousse/pate starter, the main courses were both lovely, we paid extra for cheese and biscuits which was a little disappointing for the price paid but then you are in a hotel and I've noticed a steep increase in the price of cheese and biscuits in other places as well. Overall we had an enjoyable evening and would come back again.

I booked this hotel for a weekend away for my partners birthday. We had Prosecco (nicely chilled) and chocolates in the room waiting for us and a three course dinner that was good value for money. The staff were all friendly, helpful and attentive. The room was spacious and clean. The shower was a bit weedy though but that's the only negative for this comfortable and welcoming hotel.

For the past twenty years, we have visited the Barns Hotel Restaurant many times for family celebrations, works Christmas parties as well as weddings.we have always enjoyed our times there.
Since, we had enjoyable times at the Barns we decided to book a table to celebrate my husband's birthday and retirement also one of our guest birthday. To guarantee a table I reserved a table for four guests a month in advance in the Wine Glass Restaurant. We were all looking forward to celebrating my husbands retirement-milestone that he had looked forward to for sometime.
To my horror! I recieved a phone call from the Barns the day before our expected arrival to inform me that they had double booked us and that they had a wedding booked for that day and therefore could not accommodate us.
The restaurant manager offered us a complementary meal for another time or he could make-up a table for us in another room where we would be dinning alone, I did not think that we could accept either of these offers as by this time the momentum had gone.
The Restaurant Manager knew he had a wedding booked a year in advance so if he could not accommodate us why was our booking taken and why did he fail to inform us soon after the booking was made rather than wait until the day before our expected arrival.
The Manager's incompetence ruined what was to be a momentous day for my husband. As I was unable to book at short notice at a reasonable restaurant elsewhere as they were all fully booked.
I wll not visit the Barns again.

As we registered at the desk and went to our room for the first time I thought “just another bog standard, ordinary hotel”. My disappointment grew when I discovered the widows didn’t close properly and let in noise from the adjacent road...just great. So I trucked back to reception and asked to be moved which they did without quibble. The new room at the back of the hotel was quiet...now I started to enjoy the visit.

After a brisk walk into Bedford and a wonder round the scenic riverside I returned to eat my evening meal in the restaurant. The ambiance was pleasant, as was our table overlooking the river. The food is cooked to a very high standard (quiet surprisingly). The servers are attentive without being intrusive; brilliant. An extensive wine list accompanies. A quietish night sleep was followed by breakfast, cooked fresh to order; a plate full and nice and hot.

My only small criticism about the kitchen is that my risotto was luke-warm and I had to ask several times for toast and cereal bowls at breakfast.

Whilst this hotel gives the appearance of a bog-standard establishment it deserves it’s 4/5 rating. The staff are well trained, polite and friendly. The quality of the food is very good. Make sure you get a room at the back and you’ll enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel

We attended a friends wedding at the Barns which was lovely. Food and staff fantastic .
However as for the hotel, not so lovely .. Our "Executive room" was very poor.. stained carpet very tired shower , thin poor quality towels. the furniture was of very cheap quality , in fact I believe after looking on line a premier Inn has far better in decor .The breakfast the following morning was terrible.. the "fresh" orange juice was very watered down ? powdered, the display of breakfast on offer was not very appetising .I will not be back!

Room Tip: Dont stay there !
