“Best meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010

We arrived in Carlisle at 6pm not knowing the town and we were looking for somewhere to eat. 5 adults, one of whom is Vegan and a 3 year old child. We stopped and asked a couple of women if there was a Chinese or Thai restaurant and we were directed to one down a side street from Dempseys.( not sure of its name now) There were vacant tables but we were advised they were FULL ! So glad they were because we went into Dempseys and had the best meal of our holiday. The waiter was friendly and couldn't do enough to please our Vegan and little one. Everything was cooked to perfection. It was reasonably priced too.
My only critisism was 'somebody' smoking at an open back door and the smell drifted in to where we were sitting.
Otherwise a great meal in a great town and we will return.

“The worst Steak I have ever had!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2010

It was greasy & very fatty. The worst meal I have ever had. Service was good & surrounds nice & clean - shame the food is so bad.

“Great food, friendly service, will be back to try rest of menu!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2010

Have been to dempseys before on a busy weekend and enjoyed the food and atmosphere very much, so thought we'd go again with friends midweek, 2 courses for 12.50, and none of these measly portions either! topped of with a bottle of wine and great service from the staff, we will be recommending to friends and coming back ourselves!

“Good food and service, poor espresso and a little rowdy!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2009

Having never been to Dempseys in the past, I have now been twice in the past couple months and they have both been positive experiences. The food is good quality, reasonably priced and there's a good selection to choose from.

The general ambience, decor and service is also good, however it is a popular drinking spot and the noise levels can get quite high, even in the restaurant upstairs when it is busy!

The only complaint I have is the dreadful espresso! It was like having an instant coffee! Weak and no "crema". The two of us were given replacement espressos which were equally bad, but to be fair we were told there would be no charge. They do have the proper machinery, I can only assume it's not working properly.

This may sound trivial, but I need that caffiene hit after a big meal, and a "proper restaurant" should be able to pull this off with no drama! It was equivalent to having wine with no alcohol! I was tempted to go to the nearby Lloyds bar where they do proper espressos for about £1.40!
