I've stayed at Abbey Court for more that 15 years, at least 3 or 4 times per year. it's a warm friendly, clean and welcoming place to stay. They cook a great Full English that's always served with a smile. I can't for the life of me understand what some people want from a B&B. If it's loads of staff "blowin smoke up your backside " I'm sure some of the 3 & 4 star Hotels would supply that service but with a premium price tag attatched. Abbey Court is a family run guest house that i have been happy to return to for years and have recommended to work colleagues .Thanks for the nice stay this time see you in the summer...Fanx !

horrible place. where did the good reviews come from? certainly not genuine. my friend booked the place and spoke to a woman called linda. my friend did say she sounded very curt and not nice. but it was almost 9pm and i was on the train there so i just wanted somewhere cheap but hopefully nice to lay my head for 2nites. i turned up and straight away fell over the loose tiles on the doorstep. walked in and carpets were very worn and threadbare. dark and dingy. it was 10pm and i was tired. little did i know there were many more guest houses further along or i would have tried the next one. the first thing she said to me was '£30'. i said pardon as was surprised. gave her the £30 and she gave a key and pointed to the stairs saying breakfast between 8 and 9am. the whole place is dated, dark, grubby. did wonder if rooms were let out to homeless people as i saw a shady looking man go into next door where tv was on full blast. my room was next to that with headboard against the wall and the noise was coming through. the door did not shut securely. i pushed a chair against it to sleep that nite. room was cramped and ensuite shower was a cupboard really. tiny little portable in the room. the remote did not work so i sat close to tv to operate it. road was noisy with racing revving cars. i was glad id booked one nite as i knew i couldnt stay another nite. next morning i woke up and went down for breakfast. i was down at 8.45pm and it was deserted. i sat till 9am then a cleaner came down and said no more breakfast..ended at 8.30am. i replied but the linda woman said 8am to 9am. her reply...she's gone up to sleep and not cooking anymore. i went back to my room to get ready. the shower was a nightmare. it was very low pressure so water came out slowly.. and it was either boiling scalding hot! or cold! i took forever trying to get washed. i had to get washed...had a business meeting. i thoroughly regretted paying £30 for this horrible place with no breakfast! i wish id just stayed in the ibis which id walked past down the road and looked so welcoming. this has to be one of the worst places i have stayed in!!! AVOID!! ps.. their website does not show the true pictures. those are not the pictures of this place. this place is dated and grubby and horrible and the other person who reviewed it bad was spot on.. everything correct. it is a horrible place!!!

me and a couple of friends stayed at the abbey court guest house earlier this month. despite the bad review we thought we would give it ago. when we arrived we were pleasantly greeted by the host who made us feel more than welcome. the room was clean and comfortable even though the guest house is sited on a main road the traffic noise is very quiet in the room. we were spoilt for choice for somewhere to have dinner as there are so many bars and restaurants within a short walk. on day of departure we went down for breakfast and it was Delicious. home cooked full English! nothing better when hungover. will defiantly stay again. would highly recommend.

Where do I start? First off I have absolutely nothing good to say about this b&b! The pictures and the description of the accommodation is totally false, they seem to have used stock photos found on the web. The rooms are dark, dingy and feel grubby and are Victorian in style and have not been decorated since that era!! Everything about this place is just horrid, and that includes the staff . No pleasant greetings just grunts. The breakfast was average and was finished by 9am, and god help you if you ask for more tea or toast, because you just won't get it. Thank god we only stayed one night, we could not wait to leave the place. And yes it may be close to town, but you have to walk through the seedy side of town to get there. Please do not believe the good reviews about this place, just stay away!!

If you're looking for central, good value accommodation then this is your place, stayed here as a base for walking Hadrians Wall bus goes from just up the street. They were just in the middle of doing the place up so bathroom was brand new and our room was clean and fresh and even though it is on a main road room was quiet. Breakfast was good too full english breakfast included in the price which is a rareity these days and at £50 for both of us we thought it was great value for money. As for being in the 'wrong end of town' it was the right end for us! close to the pubs and restaurants didn't have to worry about expensive taxis as everything's on your doorstep we even just walked up to train station when we left.
