“A Delightful Dog Friendly Cottage in a beautiful rural setting.”
Reviewed May 14, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

What a wonderful location these 2 cottages are set in, we stayed in No 1, loved the red phone box outside, very quirky, upon entering the cottage your drawn to the wonderful view through the patio doors looking out to Talkin Tarn, a walk from the cottage around the Tarn and back is 2.8 miles, a haven for birds especially swans.
The cottage is fully equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday, the kitchen provides all you need if like us you choose to eat in, the lounge area with the comfy sofas, wood burning stove (wood and kindling provided) is a joy to light whilst enjoying the views from the sofa watching the abundance of birds that came to the feeders outside, we could have watched the tv but gazing out of the window down to the Tarn and bird watching was for us a pure delight.
Very comfy beds and a very nice bathroom with a good shower, plenty of towels provided, lovely welcoming gifts on arrival, Anne the owner is lovely and welcoming and there if you need anything, this cottage is set on a working racing stables, so nice to be able to visit the horses in their stables and giving a slice of carrot to each which they loved and then seeing them in front of the cottage having a sand bath, so many special moments at Talkin Cottages.
As for the area, Brampton is only 2 miles away and offers so much, highly recommend the Chinese, the fish n chip shop, the Artisian Bakery and the wonderful food hall, as for walking.. Hadrian's Wall is just a short drive away, we walked from Housesteads and Greenhead and walked 20 miles taking in what I would say is the most scenic part of the wall, for a scenic drive venture to Gretna Green and up in to Scotland to Moffat back via Kielder Forest...a great road trip.
We have had an amazing holiday staying at Tarnside Cottages....we look forward to returning.

“Peaceful home from home.”
Reviewed September 16, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We stayed at lodge no2 for a week in September. The farm was easy to find and we were given a warm welcome by Anne the owner. She explained everything to us before we went to the lodge. The accommadation is on two levels with a bedroom on both levels. The upstairs double bedroom is accessed via a spiral staircase. The shower room and toilet is on the ground floor. The kitchen/diner was equipped with everything we needed including a full size cooker, dishwasher, and microwave. The dining area had doors leading onto a patio with table and chairs with a view over the tarn (lake). Lots of birds come to the feeders and the chickens peck around you. The lounge had two settees, log burner and large flat screen tv. We were free to visit the horses in the stables and also to watch them when they were exercising. The setting is wonderfully quiet and you can walk to the lake from the farm. Nearby is the village of Brampton with eateries and shops where you can get everything you need. The station at Brampton is only two stops from Carlisle and from there we took a train to Edinburgh. We also went from Brampton to Newcastle. Lots of lovely walks around the area and we walked a lot of the South Tyne trail. This is a lovely place to use as a base which I highly recommend.

“Destress”
Reviewed July 31, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

I did not see the deer but this holiday had everything else. Birds in abundance,(take your ID book), rabbits, chickens, cows and sheep, a cute dog and of course the horses. All in front of your cottage. Take the dog for a walk around the tarn in the afternoon, say goodnight to the horses in the stables on the way back. A very relaxing holiday. A well equipped rental....10/10
The only downside, which has nothing to do with the accommodation is the local pub.....not dog friendly.

“Very comfortable and cosy lodge, perfect for some time away from home”
Reviewed November 3, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Anne the owner was extremely friendly and helpful right from the moment i booked. She provided us with everything we needed including extra logs for the lovely woodburner. Comfy beds for a great nights sleep, infact i have never slept so well when away from home.
Travelled with 2 teenagers and a dog. Everyone had a great time and the TV, dvd's and board games provided were a great way to spend a cosy afternoon on a wet day. Wifi was a bit hit and miss but not a big problem as we were happy doing other things.
Views from the lodge down to the tarn were beautiful and a 20 minute walk following a pretty footpath through a field and some woodland brings you directly to the tarn shores. Would highly recommend the lodges to family and friends

“Wonderful cottage with stunning views”
Reviewed October 5, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

The cottage was warm, comfortable and furnished to a very high standard. It's on a working farm where race horses are trained. The stable lads and lasses were very friendly as was Anne who runs the cottage letting side of the farm.

The views from the cottage across to Talkin Tarn were simply stunning.

“Very relaxing and peaceful”
Reviewed August 28, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Tarnside. The cottage was comfortable and we settled in nicely. The dog enjoyed it too.
It was great to be able to walk to the tarn every morning and have coffee and ice cream and we found a good pub in Brampton that allowed dogs and provided home cooked meals - ideal after a long walk. We loved meeting the horses and watching them on the gallops. Anne couldn't do enough for us and was very friendly and helpful. The fresh eggs were delicious and the wine and biscuits made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back.

“relaxing cottage break”
Reviewed August 25, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We had a lovely relaxing few days here at the cottage. The perfect place to recharge your batteries. We went as a family of four, 2 adults, 2 children ( and our old dog). The cottage is surrounded by lovely views and is very peaceful. We appreciated the arrival gift of fresh eggs, biscuits and wine! We had a drive into tarn with our boys which they seemed to enjoy. Although there wasn`t much for a 14 year old and 11 year old to do, i don`t think it was much of a problem as they kept themselves entertained with board games, and since there was wi fi they could still play on their tablets etc. We enjoyed the use of the bbq which was there for us to use, and also enjoyed nights chilling out by the log fire.Owner Anne was also lovely and friendly. Would recommend this place for people who are looking for somewhere that offers peace and relaxation.
