“Miles better than previous review”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013 via mobile

I was travelling from Bowness to Edinburgh and looking for somewhere for lunch.recommended by the Good Pub Guide, I decided to give it a go, despite the previous comment. The welcome was warm, chatty and sincere. The Cumberland ale was excellent and the landlord even allowed me to sample two beers first. The food was fine and the service friendly and efficient . Overall very happy with the experience. NB We never saw the"wife"

“nice guy running the pub - shame about the rest”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

went here having heard mixed reports. always like to start with the positives.

The guy , mike , who runs/owns the place is a really amusing guy full of bonhomie and welcoming. The beer was quite good.

I am afraid the same cannot be said about the food that was frankly appalling. I have grave suspicions of the phrase 'home-made' at many places and certainly here. The service was second rate at best. I hope mike can turn things around , sort out the food and persuade his miserable wife to get a job somewhere else.
