I have just returned home from enjoying a fabulous meal at the Heather Glen Country House Hotel in Ainstable, Cumbria. My Brother suggested it as a birthday treat for me as he had been there before. I have to say ............ what a treat! The food was better than excellent, the ambiance was so very relaxed and the service was second to none. We watched the sun set over the hills whilst enjoying our meal.
We each had 3 courses, all different and all equally mouthwatering. I personally would recommend the Pork in Calvados, it melts in the mouth and the Strawberry and Rhubarb Creme Brulee is just divine, although my husband would argue that his Blackcurrant Ice cream Pancake was better than divine!
For anyone visiting the county, this is a treat worth having. However as it is situated in a village off the beaten track, it is advisable to get proper directions first.
The cost of the meal (3 courses plus entree and a drink) worked out at £27 per person, which is very reasonable for the high standard of the cuisine.
I would normally point out any criticisms or minor niggles ..... but I really don't have any.
