Had a day out with friends on the Settle - Carlisle Railway, we noted this restaurant on trip advisor the day before, had a superb lunch chowder - spot on flavours, risotto, cumberland
sausages and excellent mash, trio of ice creams to finish inc saffron and cardamom which was lovely.

Ate at Bijou in the run-up to Christmas 2013. Initial disappointment that turkey was not on the menu was soon overcome by the starter of Grilled Goats cheese with red onion marmalade, toasted pine nuts and balsamic glaze. This was followed by really delicious Chicken wrapped in pancetta with creamed mash, bacon and sprout confit, carrot and swede puree, spinach
and a Cumberland honey mustard cream sauce, after which I still had room for Nana Hills Christmas pudding with rum sauce and rum and raisin ice cream. A welcoming atmosphere and attentive but not over-fussy service made for a delightful evening. Thoroughly recommended, but note that you'll have to book a long way in advance for a weekend meal.

Have been twice to Bijou since my last review and it was excellent both times, last time we went the chef was off sick and Mathew was cooking ( he is normally front of house) and it was just as good, well done Mathew. My husband and I will be back.
