We went to visit there July 2009. We needed a stop heading to Harwich, so we decided to visit Colchester. The castle didn't look interesting at first, but had really interesting little exhibitions that were short and still quite in depth. I remember trying on a Roman helmet (heavy! they also have kid sizes) and the Boudicca story. They hadn't forgotten to point out interesting details about the building itself.

Very peaceful and lovely scenery to walk round and view, it has a shop and cafe to order cake drinks and ice cream which are nice to look forward to after your walk, lots to do often had a Easter egg hunt when I used to go which is fun for kids and often have a Christmas market to go to.
