“Just a short cut?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

I recently spent the day visiting Colchester and expected to get my English Heritage card out to visit the Priory, but no, you turn the corner and there you are, surrounded by 900 years of history whilst passersby take their short cut from the train station to the town through it without batting an eyelid! It is still worth the visit. It is quite beautiful and stands there proudly as so many walk through her without even noticing!

“Just imagine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

This is a lovely place to wander about or just walk past. Imagine all the walls in place and look at the doorways with their carved faces and amazing brickwork. The missing walls are marked by pathways to give you some idea of the original size of the place.

“Parts still standing after 900 years”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

Parking is available in the car park by Colchester Town Station and the remains of this once stunning priory are easily accessed. There is not much left to see but it is worth a quick look if you are in the area and can be combined with a quick visit to St. John's Abbey Gate which is close by.
