Owner description: Colchester's distinctive heritage is nowhere more apparent than in Castle Park. A site of national importance, this Victorian Park contains evidence of 2000 years of history and is a landscape moulded by the people of Colchester over many eras.Castle Park not only encompasses much of Colchester's rich heritage within its boundaries but is much loved and used as a part of present day life. It boasts over 1 million visitors a year. Providing a green oasis in the town centre, you can sit, walk, enjoy music, play games, or picnic amongst wonderful flowers and trees. Its horticulture is award-winning and the park has long been a superb venue for the town's big events. The park itself is designated Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.

We've often been to Colchester Castle Park, and we've always enjoyed the fresh ait, the gentle walk up over the hill towards the castle at the top, and the grandchildren love the brilliant children's playground areas. There are a couple of places where a good range of refreshments are available, and of course the floral decorations are absolutely stunning!
This time, however, we had our dog with us, and found that only the lower park was accessible to us. We wanted to go through the upper park to get a drink at the cafe, but for some reason dogs are banned in the upper park. We always keep our dog on her lead, amd carry dog bags, but this makes no difference - two legs good, four legs bad, it seems!

Instead of just following the streets we decided to wind our way from our hotel to the town Center through the park.
What a lovely stroll it was. We walked along the river, took pictures of a few swans, ate a few black raspberries, tried not to step on snails and just enjoyed the peacefulness of the park.
Definitely a popular walk among locals and tourists a like....

Wonderful park, beautiful flowers and loads of flower beds artistically done! The swan pedalos were very popular on the boating lake the Ducks were abundant too! We had a lovely relaxing walk here in Sunday :-)

Visited the park with my 3 children and had a great time in the play area for a couple of hours. It has one of the largest selections of equipment I have seen in a free play area, suitable for all ages and abilities. It is well kept and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We just love walking through the English countryside and this park was just perfect. Nice paths and historic areas.
