Owner description: The Gardens and Arboretum at Marks Hall form an unmissable attraction in the Essex countryside. Marks Hall combines many English traditions with beautiful formal gardens, a stunning Arboretum with an enviable collection of mature trees from across the world, woodland and leafy paths to walk on for miles. A visit to Marks Hall will inspire a need to return time and time again seeing new things as they happen throughout the year.

My wife and I married in the coach house in July 2012 and I could not fault the venue, service or staff. An incredible venue, helpful and friendly staff and such a stunning backdrop with the lovely lake and incredible treescape. The venue is incredibly good value to hire compared to the local competition. If you aren't looking to tie the knot then you could just remortgage your house and enjoy a tea and slice of cake in the coffee shop. If its a big house you might have enough change to pay to go walk around the plantation.

This is a place for all the family. Children are catered for with trails to follow and things to find. A very important aspect for me is the number of paths and trails throughout the estate that are surfaced to a high standard making them easily negotiable for wheelchair users. The lakes have many water fowl on them and fish can be seen swimming around. It is possible to spend a whole day here and eat well in the restaurant. The shop sells an interesting selection of locally produced consumables and good choice of books on various subjects.
There is adequate parking, including Blue Badge spaces. The formal gardens are a delight for anyone looking for inspiration and plants can be purchased at reasonable prices.
This is place we will return to again and again.

Enjoyed our visit today. The new animal trail is great and my 2 and 4 year old enjoyed following the signs, finding the animal and stamping their piece of paper. The trail ends at the small play park. The fish also look great fun to feed and you can buy a bag of food at the entrance. It is a very serene place and didn't seem to be overly busy considering it is summer holidays. The picnic area is also nice. Kids under 5 are free which is a bonus. Only improvements would be a less gruff lady on the door and a few more signs dotted around as it is a big place and easy to get lost in the wooded areas.

We visited on a Saturday in August, look out for signposts as rather hidden in overgrown hedges!
Once we arrived the place was lovely, good parking facilities with excellent places for picnics and eating outside the cafe. Good value food available throughout the day with lunches around the 12 noon to 2 pm times.
The gardens are mostly accessible for wheelchair users - we spent over 2 hours wandering on very good paths with one of our group in a wheelchair. Good descriptive leaflets included in entry price and other explanatory leaflets available for the walled garden when you arrive there.
Woodland paths not so easy for wheelchair but lovely for normal walking, great trail for youngsters to keep them involved.

Nice garden which makes a wonderful backdrop for the photos. Do get access to the whole arborateum.
Wedding is a do it yoursel affair so delta ther disjointed. Everything has to be cleared away by 11 am the next day which is so much work the day after. No lie in for the bride and from!
