Owner description: The Gardens and Arboretum at Marks Hall form an unmissable attraction in the Essex countryside. Marks Hall combines many English traditions with beautiful formal gardens, a stunning Arboretum with an enviable collection of mature trees from across the world, woodland and leafy paths to walk on for miles. A visit to Marks Hall will inspire a need to return time and time again seeing new things as they happen throughout the year.

Marks Hall is a place well worth a visit for all the family. The facilities are excellent with a tea room and clean toilets etc. The food is reasonably priced too. The walks around the many acres of diverse countryside are beautiful. The main grounds have two large lakes with lovely trees and shrubs to delight young and old. The Arboetum is stunning and not a weed in site. Woodland walks with seasonal delights snowdrops autumn and spring colours are a joy. The new childrens play area is also fun and my grandchildren had a wail of a time! On our visits we have seen buzzards, kingfishers and wild deer. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They also have a mobile golf type trolley to take you around if your legs will not carry you but check if it is out on the day you hope to visit! It is also a great venue for weddings etc and the area used has a beautiful garden for photographs.

Had a lovely visit to Marks Hall Garden, lots to see, from lovely flower beds to an Arboretum. An excellent cafe with large choice of hot or cold food. A very good nursery, lots of bargains.

We came upon these gardens by chance, and they do seem an Essex secret. There weren't all that many other visitors on the day we were there, which was lovely for us (but not perhaps for the management?).

We enjoyed our day very much. There are lakes, a walled garden (with modern design and planting) and an extensive arboretum, as well as a 2nd World War memorial. Paths are mostly OK but can be muddy in places.

The refreshment room is in an ancient barn, and offers light lunches and teas. The celery and Stilton soup I had was delicious, as was the sponge, jam and coconut cake. Washrooms were very clean, the gift-shop had interesting stock, and there was a good selection of plants at reasonable prices.

I look forward to going again at a different season of the year.

Its a fair walk to the garden area from the entrance and tbh not really a place you could take a disabled person, as its to far and there is no concrete path. It isnt as such a formal garden and some parts are fairly wild with very muddy slippery pathways when wet.
On the plus side its a great place to wander I feel a few more bench,s would be great as there are not enough places just to sit and relax.
Lots of exploring and you could easily stay a whole day and come back and see more. I love the changing of the seasons and you can see these at Marks hall, Its a stunning place to take pictures or just sit and relax and take in the surroundings
