Absolutely marvellous. The cast had a lot to live up to and they did. A great version of this brilliant play. I especially liked the revolving stage it worked very well with this production. I would strongly recommend this play a guaranteed enjoyable time will be had by all.

“Such a delightful theatre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2013

Comparing this theatre to my local, The Chichester Festival, I have to say given the choice, the Mercury would definitely win.
The intimacy and the quality of the productions I have seen here have been superb. You may not always have the big names here but you certainly don't miss out on the high standard of the acting and indeed in many cases this is preferable.
It's a shame I no longer live close to enjoy it more frequently.

“One Play of Ayckbourn "Intimate Exchanges"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

The decision of this theatre to put on a number of the linked plays within Ayckbourn's "Intimate Exchanges" must have felt risky at the time, but judging by the continued audience when we have attended, it was a risk worth taking. The two actors who cover all the parts (6 of them) are amazing, managing to hold the very different characters split sometimes by seconds (and I marvel at the rapid costume/hair changes achieved in these times), and we have now seen three of this set. We appreciate the linked plays' "Tree Diagram" in the foyer, to help make sense of what is going on. It also good to note that the staff were friendly and the atmosphere good. Worth going.

“Well worth visiting.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

Being fans of Cadfael we visited to see "The Virgin in the Lake" presented by a touring company. If you can survive the early scenes which are a bit "bitty" and disjointed (but necessary to set the scene) the play begins to warm up and progresses to its climax.
I thoroughly enjoyed this production and can recommend it if you can catch it on its travels.
Staff at the theatre are helpful and professional
The move away from a theatre company to mainly "bought in" productions is a fairly new development and, in my case, has resulted in fewer visits to the Mercury
