“High standard of theatre productions!”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

Good productions with varied programme. Comfortable, spacious seats, with good views of the stage. Helpful, friendly staff make it an excellent theatre experience. Studio theatre gives more intimate atmosphere for smaller productions

The Mercury is always very good. Fantastic shows, comfortable seats, reasonably priced. A good variety of plays every year.

“Panto performance suits this quirky triangular theatre.”
Reviewed December 31, 2012 via mobile

This strange and charming theatre's resident company put on a pantomime every year as part of their full year of performances.
The auditorium is a strange hexagonal shape but it gives a cosy feel and generally good viewing from everywhere except the very edges but this is clearly explained when booking.
The theatre has had many upgrades to the sound, light and A/C over the years and does not disappoint.
This year's Panto is the normal remix of a classic tale with the usual added topical and local references. Uncle Graham leads the orchestra and presides over the sing-along. Regular audiences will recognise many of the troupe and the show bounces along pleasantly with good effects, costume and props; a suitably scary giant, a very good beanstalk and the Dame's outfits are superb.
To be critical the story lacks a little but this doesn't detract from the experience.
Most straightforward parking is in the Multi-storey St Mary's carpark - a short walk over a pedestrian bridge and through the hole in the Roman wall.
The biggest flaw is that more shows can't use the theatre, apparently because of the odd shape of the stage and wings.
Well worth a visit.

“Panto, Great fun for all the family”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

Went to the panto on Friday 28th December. First visit and was very pleased with how
easy it is to park,
Friendly staff with good direction of where to go, seating was very good with good leg room.
I would highly recommend the theatre and look forward to a return visit for future shows.
Well done and keep up the good work!

“Pantos are great for all ages!”
Reviewed December 15, 2012 via mobile

Only been to the Pantos the last few years, use to see shows about 10 years ago and these were also good.
The Pantos have been excellent very well played and written and the cast responded well to the audience and involved them both adults and children. Can't recommend enough for a great time.
